E-Book Pricing Alerts

Simon & Schuster just waylaid me here with a pop-up for "a free eBook" if I sign up for the newsletter. Then in my welcome email I receive...

"This offer is not available in your country."

What was the point of that exercise?

Anybody been able to pull up Novembers deal? I tried, but I don't think I did it right because I just kept getting an error.

Thanks Leathco.

I have a question to David Mack directly. Thsnks for your great deals but if you pull up Star trek on Amazon all of your star trek novels are $9.99. Why would your latest novel from Titan go up from $6.99 to $9.99 in less than one year? Especially considering Kristen Beyer's novel is still $6.99.

Just so you know. I am a fan of your works and your writing and the Destiny series was amazing.

If you want to give us great deals, myself and all the other star trek fans on here would like to buy all the 700 plus star trek books and ebooks for great and fair prices and not at $15.99 a piece.

Im not trying to attack anyone, just to show knowledge is power.

In the past I've been able to go to multiple months just by changing the name. I think there were possibly a couple times I even went two or three months ahead.

Just a heads up all recent star trek novels from 2009 to 2017 that were $6.99 are now $7.49. I firmly believe that $7.49 is a placeholder price and that those ebooks may INCREASE in price to $8.00 or more.
I hope there are still more monthly deals, especially with all the recent price increases.

I use ereaderiq to keep track of price histories, price increases and or drops.
But I always check the forums here FIRST :)

If you want to give us great deals

I admit that I am not terribly knowledgeable about the publishing industry, but I'm reasonably certain Mr. Mack is not setting the prices for the Star Trek ebooks himself.

In the past I've been able to go to multiple months just by changing the name. I think there were possibly a couple times I even went two or three months ahead.

I believe they stopped publishing the pages in advance a few months ago. It seems that now only the current ones are available. Recently, I seem to recall people have even found the actual deals in place on the booksellers' websites before they were posted to the startrekbooks website.

Im sorry I didnt intend to make it sound like that. To keep it on topic. I dont seem to understand the separation between an author his work and the publisher. Mr. Mack specifically stated recently he was happy for a contact renewal on Star Trek. I just noticed his latest more recent ebook increased in price dramatically at that time when the other star trek ebooks were still cheaper.

The same could be said for Star Trek section 31 control is now $8.99 but he prior book was $7.99 why?

I just want a reasonable reason to buy and ebook and not feel like Im constantly playing the stock market with a price increase one day and then a price decrease or a drastic .99 cent sale the next.

I dont want to devolve into the same old argument of oh ebooks are too expensive, and if you cant afford it its too bad its a luxury garbage that seems to pop up on the internet. That's not my intent.

I just dont understand the disconnect or the lack of caring between authors and the publishers between setting prices so high, and an author not seeming to care or saying Im contractually bound not to say or do anything? It makes no sense.

Isnt it the goal to get everyone to read your books at a decent reasonable price?

When a book is published by a large company like Simon & Schuster, the price of the eBook is set by the publisher. The author has no say in this. Sometimes the price fluctuates as the publisher tries to improve sales by lowering a price temporarily.

The price of print books is suggested by the publisher, but retailers (Amazon, B&N) set whatever price they want for print copies. Those prices also fluctuate based on demand, supply, and other factors. Again, the author has no say in this.

The only time an author gets a say in the pricing of their work is when they self-publish and control the online venue. Because I have not yet self-published any of my work, I do not determine any of its pricing.

Thanks for letting me know Mr. Mack. We talk about discounts on here. But when I had seen your ebooks specifically increase $1 or $2 over ebooks from Mrs. Beyer or Mr. Cox or any other Star Trek writer who had recent ebooks increase. As a fan of yours I got concerned, and thought you should know.

Two quick question, as an author how do you personally feel about the price drops to $.99 cents or a $1.99 especially for the Destiny series since 2013, 2016, and again this summer? Is this a good thing to you or bad?

Also I know that you said the Destiny omnibus as been changed and tighten up in content, can you explain in what way? I didnt understand the differences between the individual books vs the omnibus?

Again I wasnt trying to attack you Mr. Mack but raise your awareness, and I want to apologize if it was perceived as an attack on you. Im sorry.

To all, please get out and VOTE.

Let's hope for some more great discounts for ebooks in November and beyond.

All the best,
-Koric

It looks like a monthly sale isn't happening this month. Though the Khan series is still 99 cents, startrekbooks.com has removed the sale page altogether from their front page of the web site.

In regards to the conversation between David Mack and Koric, I feel it is unfortunate that many people under-value the true cost of writing. Writing is something I dabble in (although I work a full time job, only have one book out with another I have been working on for a year and a half), and the amount of work it takes to even release something small is daunting. On top of that, if it is their full time job, these people have the same bills we all have, and unless a book is a major seller, not a lot of profit is made off of them. 99 cent sales, while great for the reader, doesn't put any money in the authors pocket at all in the long run. While many complain at the cost of ebooks vs print, the biggest cost of books in not in the physical printing of the book, but in the time spent actually writing it, doing all the research necessary for it, and keeping the writers home afloat while doing the writing.

Heads up for all Section 31: Control, Disavowed, and Cloak are now $.99 cents on Amazon US.

Hopefully the rest of the series with be on sale. I'll keep checking.

Thanks Mr. Mack and all writers its a great holiday gift and great birthday gift for me. Please know for every discounted ebook I buy, I also buy regular priced ebooks too.

I'm wanting to send best wishes to all on the forums...
Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Holidays to All! :)

Well on Amazon Canada, and BN. com appears six Section 31 Ebooks are at 99 cents each (three more from 2001), so would guess Amazon USA just has to catch up (soon hopefully). Happy Days!

Got Disavowed and Control yesterday. Should I read the other Post-The Fall DS9 books before I read them, or can I just jump right into them after I'm caught up on TNG & Titan?
