Discovery Merchandising

I don't know where this fable that they didn't stupidly lose control of half of their IP is coming from. It was for precisely this reason that we never saw a Sovereign class starship or any of the movie assets at all in DS9 - licensing can be a bitch.
CBS didn't lose those rights.
They just let Paramount use that stuff exclusively while making the movies.
I don't know it you've noticed, but everything that was merchandised during the TOS/TNG movies also carried the CBS logo.

What are you talking about? DS9 used the uniforms, communicators, phasers, tricorders, plus the Akira, Steamrunner, and Saber class starship models that were all created for the movies. Not to mention that the Defiant put in an appearance in First Contact.

The reason the the Sovereign class never appeared in DS9 was the same reason that the Constitution refit never showed up in any TV shows: to avoid "brand confusion" and to make sure the movies felt like events when they were released. (Berman nixed Voyager's aeroshuttle along similar lines; it was deemed too similar to the Captain's Yacht in Insurrection.)

Exactly, all of DS9 predates the split anyway, so everything was owned by Paramount under Viacom. There were no licencing considerations and it's lueictrous to suggest otherwise.

Interesting. What makes them not trustworthy? What has been said that has been disproven?

One of the main reasons i dislike Rick Berman, is his belief that the fanbase was too dumb to understand which spin-off they were watching. He really was a pedantic, micro-managing ass.

CBS didn't lose anything, Paramount just retained the rights to make movies.

CBS owns the rights to the Star Trek licence, including the Kelvin Timeline movies.

The KT movies are listed as the properties CBS can licence out. (Though oddly the Pre-Kelvin movies are not listed)

Everyone, including Paramount, who wants to make a Star Trek product has to go through CBS, even if it's a Kelvin Timeline product.

Well that's patently false isn't it? DS9 was long done when the split occurred, and loads of First Contact stuff appeared on the show. Uniforms, equipment, ship designs. Then the admirals uniform and dress uniform from Insurrection came over too. Plus both those movies overtly referenced Deep Space Nine in return.
