Trip Eating...Make It Stop.

I also heard you should never get Trip wet, nor should he be fed anything after midnight. Also, avoid direct sunlight.

I don't have the faintest idea as to why.....

Trip is an ass. By definition everything he does is annoying.
Totally disagree. Trip is the single most interesting character in ENT bar none.

In discussions on how ENT could have been made better, swapping Trip (with his existing character traits intact) into the role of ship's captain would be at the top of my list.

While any character could be seen as annoying, might I ask how you perceive Trip as an ass? Did he do something in a particular episode that you feel earns him that label?

He just comes off as annoying to me. He always has. He could never control his mouth, and was always quick to anger. Personally, I've always felt that Reed should have been the third pominent character. e was always more respectful, personable and approachable.

I think this would have made the show much better! But then again, there is a lot of comic value to Archer and his antics. But, I too am turned off by how easily Trip gets irrationally angry. It's not a great look for him, but... "he has very nice arms".

I don't know. "Respectful, personable, and approachable" does not necessarily equal "interesting," and runs the risk of being bland or boring.

Trip was probably the most engaging character on the show. He had a lot of personality, not unlike McCoy on the original series or the EMH on Voyager or pretty much the entire cast of DS9. :)

As a captain, Trip couldn't have slept with T'Pol. Make a few allusions to her breasts and ass, sure! but sleep with her? No way!

Ah, you just reminded me of another reason I found Trip annoying. He came off as a McCoy rip-off, only with absolutely none of McCoy's charm.

IMO, Trip and Archer were both these "aw shucks" rubes who were woefully unprepared to meet new cultures and explore new environments out in the depths of space.

Being unprepared is not about both of them, whole the crew (except T'Pol and Dr. Phlox) has no clue what they are doing there, even the weapons were not calibrated or better said BnB have no idea, how would it be the first mission of Earth's first warp five capable spaceship looks like. Of course they could not 100% ready for everything, but scale of naivety and unprofessionalism should not so low. On the other hand, what would be the better story of a initial mission, than making mistakes and learning from them? None of the ST-Captains made so radical character development, faced his/her prejudices and own moral codes and all these happen despite of weak writing. And same can be said for T'Pol and Trip.

I am not sure, if we are talking about same Trip and McCoy, but for me only common thing was their fervor of arguing with their Vulcans. :vulcan: McCoy enjoyed also arguing with his Captain and was "father figure" who set his meaning over the kids and took pleasure in his position. Trip does not need the charms of McCoy, he has his own ;)

I never thought that he is an angry person (e.g. Sisko is an angry person). He is very passionate, emotional person and he reacts very believable in this way, if it comes practicing his profession, living his mourning or loving his Vulcan gal (who is anti-pole to him) or even.. eating! :p

Kor

And Archer even started off with a strong prejudice against Vulcans. Looking down on their experience of exploration. Mocking T'Pol each time she made recommendations about their away missions... etc...

Kor

They were following the precedents of their human ancestors

Trip eating ?
I actually can't remember the last time any of the crew sat down to a meal and actually ate any of it.
T'Pol, Trip and Archer usually sit down to a massive meal prepared by the invisible chef only to hear Malcolm pipe in with, "Captain to the Bridge, three vessels just dropped out of warp"
Malcolms lucky I wasn't the Captain, it would be "Jeezus, can you not deal with it, I haven't eaten in three seasons"

That's also what started the war with the Klingons. Archer invited Klingons dignitaries to patch things up and Chef had the bright idea to make spaghetti. The Klingons left the table immediately, highly offended! "How dare them to serve us dead worms? Don't they think we're important enough to get live ones?"
