The DSC Ships are less advanced.

 

Word of God says a lot of things about Discovery. On-screen evidence says otherwise.

 

I'm not saying that because the creators say so, I'm saying it because they look less advanced then TNG movie era to me.

To me they look like some sort of step between TOS and the TOS movies.

They have angular nacelles, but TOS-Like domed bussard collectors. The Bussards even spin on some of the ships, like the TOS Connie.

They have TOS Movie era style phaser hardpoints, not TNG Era phaser strips.

The hull textures are closer to the TOS movies then TNG or the TNG movies.

Nothing about them say more advanced then TNG to me.

 

Well, in continuity sure. As a general rule in terms of starship aesthetics? Not as much.

 

Having the ability to jump anywhere in the universe (multiverse, now?) puts the Discovery far ahead of any other Star Trek ship in terms of ability.

Outclassed by hostiles? Jump out of range. They should be invincible from that alone.

 

The only other stardrive I know of that even comes close is the Jaunt Drive from the Mirror Universe novels.

 

Well they can't use that anymore, so no.

Sure Discovery could jump around, but military wise it was a weak ship.

 

The seven signals are 30,000 light-years apart. They can and will use it.

It defeated the Klingon ship of the dead and the Terran flagship. It was as strong as any other Trek hero ship in battle, with the same phasers and photon torpedoes.

 

Just because there are 7 signals doesn't mean they're going to all seven of them, they'll probably just go to the one closest to them.

Discovery could hardly handle a single Klingon destroyer and some bird of preys, when 10 years later the Enterprise could take on several D7s single handily.

The Klingon ship of the dead was cloaked and their shields were down.

 

Doubtful, but pointless arguing about it until January.

That's because the crew were scientists with no combat experience, as we see early on in the battle drills. Lorca moulded them into a fighting machine by the end of the season.

Classic Trek was always inconsistent on whether Klingon ships were a threat or not, the danger they posed varied wildly depending on the plot.

And the Terran Flagship?

Someone, perhaps Harry Mudd, jumps forward to 2399 and Picard has to deal with him.

 

Who do you think make a nice baddie opponent for Picard: 1) Q (played by John de Lancie), 2) Q (in played by another familiar face like Vash or Wesley Crusher), 3) Khan (in a new body), 4) Harry Mudd, 5) Prof Moriarty's hologram running around wearing a holo-emitter, or 6) Name your own favorite baddie ??
