Alternate Trek History

Arpy

Vice Admiral
Admiral
How the movies should have gone:

TNG Movies (closer in tone to the series than the TNG movies we know):
1995 TNG I: TOS sendoff and reunification with the Romulans (Tom Hanks guest stars)
1997 TNG II: full-scale Borg invasion
1999 TNG III: big Q movie

2001 DS9: Bajor joins the Federation
2003 VOY: Caretakers come to Earth/the battle to save Earth from itself being lost somewhere far away
2005 DS9: something topical (a la nBSG) about Afghanistan/Iraq II
2007 VOY: a Borg scare/the Patriot Act/the battle to save home from itself

If ENT was a different series with a gay captain and a ship closer to an Earth ship out of The Martian or Babylon 5 and earlier Trek lore. Series runs 2001-2008:
2010 ENT: the Romulan War
2012 ENT: the Temporal Cold War (maybe crossover casts)
2014 ENT: birth of the Federation

2016: 50-Year Anniversary of Star Trek, with digital remastering of all series, and documentaries on series/fandom. Cover of Time Magazine. Apple releases limited edition iPADD and Trek-like graphics theme for all devices.

New Series, set in 25th century with a half-alien captain, runs 2010-2017:
2019 New Series Movie; sci-fi, not another war picture, boldly reminding us that “the human adventure is just beginning.”

Mine:

2001:
Star Trek: The Lost Generation premieres on UPN and in syndication. TV series set at the close of the 23rd-Century (several years after Star Trek Generations) aboard the Enterprise-B. Although dealing with an all-new captain and crew, early episodes feature guest appearances from several TOS cast members.

2002: Star Trek: Nemesis (still plays out the same as the farewell to the TNG cast).

2005: UPN still folds, but TLG continues as a syndicated series.

CBS and Viacom do not split up. Paramount announces plans for a new series of Star Trek movies called "Star Trek Origins" that will be set a century prior to TOS and eventually cover the Earth-Romulus War.

2007: Star Trek Origins is released. The movie details Robert Winter's first assignment as captain of the S.S. Yorktown. Among his crew is Commander Pava, an Andorian woman, and the first non-Human to serve aboard an Earth starship.

2008: TLG Ends its run after seven seasons. Star Trek continues solely as a movie franchise until the current day.

2018: Paramount announces plans for a new Star Trek series that will be set a century after TNG that will debut in 2019.

Imagine if they'd made the Star Trek: The Academy Years movie in 1991 and it was a success. We'd have had an X-Men: Days of Future Past switchover to the young cast continuing those adventures.

Or what if Spock remained dead and characters like David Marcus and Saavik took the spotlight (as was seemingly the original plan)?

What if, instead of JJ Abrams' reboot, we got that Romulan War movie about Jim Kirk and Spock's grandfathers instead?
