News Season 2 poster released, January release confirmed

Ugh... angels and faith vs science... might be horrible.

Hopefully not, though.

I doubt it will be horrible. Let's not write it off before we see what's going on. Let's not assume it will be be bad before we have watched a single minute of it.

Man....do we ever learn?

Yup. I think those are Romulan BoP wings. Unfortunately...

Nope. Not even close.

It could be a masterpiece by Rembrandt and you'd probably post the same thing.

If I think something is good, I'll compliment it. If I think it is bad, I'll call it out for the garbage that it is.

Gees...
It's just a digital announcement poster for a TV show.
That's more than a bit harsh for something that 's going to be a distant memory by February.

Yeah, really not a fan of the angels/demon imagery...

Seems like the one in the teaser is the "demon", and the one on the poster the "angel":

I guess it's going to come down to a battle between two (one?) ancient races, that also probably "inspired" human history and will have religious undertones... Imagine TNGs "the Chase", but with more Western Christian imagery.

Yeah... I guess I'm not a big fan of this direction. But we will see - hopefully it will positively surprise us all!

I mean to be fair we have seen several hours of Star Trek presented by this writing team in this format (season one) and, to me at least, it wasn't... great. Not awful, but the writing in particular certainly doesn't leave me hopeful that they can nail something that really needs to be treated in a somewhat nuanced and subtle fashion. Look, maybe I'll be wrong and season two has been retooled enough to count as 'not having seen a minute of it' but for the moment I'll give it the benefit of the doubt enough to watch it, expect to be disappointed, and then I can only be pleasantly surprised when its actually great right? ;)

Yeah, I'm pretty much in the same boat.

Given the absolutely fecking mission it was to even get the first season made, is it any wonder? I'm sure Season 2 will be consistently better, at least post-Episode 5. Though I believe after they fired the showrunners they went back and reshot a fair bit of the first 5 episodes.

Why bring TNG Season 1 from 1987 into an ST: D discussion? ...oh, wait...;)

Science vs. faith brought us Contact. One of my favorite movies. Am I saying I think DSC S2 will be anything remotely like Contact? No. But I'm looking forward to seeing what they bring to the table.

And I hope that come the 4th of July, someone puts together fireworks looking like that poster. That would be a lot of fun to see up there in the air.

Sounds good. Doubtful it will be handled the best, or to my own personal liking, but I at least like the willingness to try.

Random Thought: Jeff Hunter played Jesus in Nicholas Ray's epic film, King of Kings (1961). Now, we have Pike filling in as Captain of the Discovery in a story where religion comes into play. That somehow seems (unintentionally) fitting.

Agreed.

I don't know. It won't feel like True Star Trek™ unless every scene with the Klingons has several minutes of slowly enunciated dialogue, in Klingon, expounding on what it means to remain Klingon.

I believed it would be "ok" based on trailers. Ended up thinking it was great. If history holds, it will make a big leap in S2. I have every reason to be optimistic!

Nope. Not even close.
It looks a lot more like the romulan symbol to me than that weird creature thing from trailer 1. What I'm wondering about though is if the downward facing wings is more of a TNG design than TOS. I don't even remember which romulan design was used on ENTEPRISE.

If you mean the ship design, the "wings" were forward swept like TOS.
If you mean the emblem, they used the Nemesis one.

But again, I find it very unlikely this has anything to do with the Romulans.

I'm thinking it does because of two things: Spock's involvement, and it just looks more like wings to me than the tentacles coming out of that trailer creature.
