The X-Men Cinematic Universe (General Discussion)

Well I'm looking forward to it, even if I'm frustrated with the Lost opportunities with the franchise.

We know Jean and Scott survive this time, we are just waiting to see how.

I'd be more than happy if Marvel just does a soft reboot with the same characters and avoids rehashing origins and repeat relationships. There is a massive amount of potential X-men stories they could explore without retreading old territory.

That said, since defeating Thanos will require resetting the timeline, any changes could and should be explained expressly by one of the characters (maybe Logan or Charles, whose brains have assimilated multiple timelines, or Jean using a remnant of the Phoenix force), commenting in the first Marvel movie that something is up with the timeline. Again. And just move on.

Quite to the frustration of many Marvel tv fans, Marvel Studios has never even mentioned Daredevil.

The distinction seems to be fairly concrete these days.

It makes sense though...hardly anything in the TV shows would register on the Avengers' radar.

"Everyone and their dog" seems to be convinced that Jessica Chastain is a Skrull,
Huh? This is literally the first time I've seen anyone suggest she's a Skrull while most ideas I've seen (here and other places) theorized she's Lilandra, despite Jessica Chastain's denials.

Not that it matters to me since I haven't heard of her or Cassandra Nova.

Hmm. I guess I've been in different parts of the Internet than you have, because I keep on seeing it come up.

Something else that keeps coming up - and that I'm struggling wirh, to be honest - is what appears to be an intentional misidentification of the Phoenix in this film as a cosmic force when both the conclusion Apocalypse and the trailer make it clear that, as in The Last Stand, it's not.

Yes, the X-Men go into space, yes, Chastain's villain is an alien, and, yes, the 'inciting incident' for Jean's transformation happens in space, but that doesn't make the Phoenix a "cosmic force".

First look at the new Picard series ;)

Complete with blue Worf, Geordie and a Bolian on the team haha

June is a much better release date than February. It actually shows confidence in the film. If they pushed in to August it would be a different story. Though why they made the choice after the trailer is baffling. Did it get more online views than they expected? This might have more to do with changes for some of Fox’s other releases. If something else was moved they had to change everything . What else comes out that date as competition?

Yeah, really he's just no worth it.
Simon Kinberg has been making the rounds trying to hype up the Dark Phoenix trailer, and dropped this little gem:
https://www.ign.com/articles/2018/09/27/gambit-movie-will-be-a-romantic-comedy-says-producer

Make of it what you will, and we'll see if they actually start filming it next year before Disney takes control, but unlike the reboot/retread debate about Dark Phoenix, at least they seem to be aiming to continue in the Deadpool/Logan/New Mutants vein of trying to put a different spin on Marvel movies.

The article also mentions that they're still working on the script for Multiple Man, so that project may not be 100% dead yet either.
One thing I do have to compliment Fox on is that, even more than Marvel, they seem to be willing to let their superhero movies be very different genres.

This the first I've heard about her being Cassandra Nova, but it does seem like very possible theory. If anything, I'd say it's more likely than her being a Skrull.

Yeah, I've been a bit confused on that point too.
Now this wouldn't be nearly as hilarious if they hadn't JUST RELEASED A TRAILER that said February 14th.. :guffaw:

As Yoda might say, "About this, a bad feeling do I have."
It is a bit odd this would happen this way, you'd think they would have known this was coming and could have changed the trailer. The article say it's because the schedule for the reshoots is being changed due to Sophie Turner's commitement to Game of Thrones, and I can't see this being something that just happened today and caught them off guard.

They're reporting that it will be pushed to June 7th which is a shame. I suppose I don't mind waiting a little longer for it.

I knew people were going to freak out over this new release date change, and I wasn't disappointed.

I don't know why FOX didn't black out the "2.14" from the trailer, but that's on them.

And this delay is about box office maximization for Deadpool and Alita: Battle Angel, not Dark Phoenix or its reshoots.

It's going to be up against Godzilla King of the Monsters, Toy Story 4 and Secret Life of Pets 2.

It's dead on arrival.
