DC Movies - To Infinity and Beyond

Well its bad casting, but since its not based on the actual Birds of Prey comics, I'm not actually angry. Just another stolen comic from admittedly a great team that deserves a movie, but instead is being used to prop up a shitty Margot Robbie vehicle (seriously, she is shit, the DCEU alfred would make for a better solo movie subject then fake Harley).

Maybe when it flops they'll drop anything David Ayer related just like how they're trying to drop Snyder's shit, and they can totally move on from their terrible decisions.

It isn't going to flop.Harley from Suicide Squad was MASSIVELY popular...

Yeah, right. She was the second worst part of that movie after Jared Leto, and Suicide Squad, while it made money, has not held up in retrospect with people. It didn't even really hold up at the time, and I say this as someone who enjoys it as a trash action movie, I just treat it as a random action movie and not a comic adaptation, which is literally the only way it works.

Also, Harley Quinn wasn't in Suicide Squad. Margot Robbie was in it, dressed like a doofus that got popular with the "sexy halloween costume" crowd, but we still haven't seen a real live action Harley Quinn. Even Mia Sara was closer to a real live action Harley Quinn, and that shitty Birds of Prey TV show also got Oracle pretty right, so actually this BoP movie is even lagging far behind the crappy BoP Tv show now that I think about it.

Robbie got an Oscar Nom, this means she's a more valuable commodity and WB is dumb enough to focus on her.

Margot Robbie was no more Harley Quinn then Will Smith was. She just has a decently sized name, and a marketable (because its so generic) look. Even in that movie she's still the second worst adapted character after Jared Leto playing...whatever the hell he was playing (he certainly wasn't the Joker). Cut out Leto's role in the movie and change her character name name and no one would have guessed she was even playing Harley Quinn.

^ You clearly don't care if people take you seriously, because the stuff you type just keeps getting more and more ridiculous.
To be fair he's said many times that he doesn't give a shit what any of us think... Of course I am not sure why he's here in that case, but meh.

What is a "real" live action version? Mainlining from the comics? The DCAU version(s)? I think she has more flexibility in adaptaion than Captain America (for one example), who has a hard-wired personality/appearance built over the decades, so for characters of that kind, sticking closer to the source(s) is important, but i'm not certain that applies to Quinn.

Well, here was an interesting take on this, last week:

To be any kind of immigrant is to be jammed between the happiness of being welcomed and the lasting stigma of being different from your surroundings. I could never buy into an alien that had the benefit of hiding his alien-ness simply by donning his spectacles. My man could be a foreign journalist on the side, rock a suit, and have people just love his entire ass without being seen as a threat by the law abiding folk—his white, blue-eyed, iron chiseled cheeks grant him that privilege of consideration. A black Superman would never be that welcomed. He’d fit more in line with Shuster and Siegal’s original vision of rising above an “alien” status to become something great—a hope that America has claimed to promote since its foundation. With anything but “white”, that ideal holds more true without the white foundation

So yeah, the idea of a lily white refugee/undocumented immigrant is a little bit of cognitive dissonance these days...

Just in time to get slaughtered by Mary Poppins returns and Bumblebee...

Really? Wishful thinking on your part?

NOW . . . people are deciding that Superman shouldn't be portrayed by a white actor? Now? This strikes me as nothing more than another idea or opinion that has suddenly become the in-thing. It seems to me that deep down, a lot of people are incapable of forming, let alone maintaining their own ideas. They just go with the most popular opinion at the moment.

I don't care whether a white actor, a black actor, or any actor of color portrays Superman, as long as he does a good job. I'm more than satisfied with Henry Cavill in the role right now, just as I was more than satisfied with Dean Cain back in the 1990s, who is Eurasian by the way. Hell, unlike many others, I rather enjoyed Michael B. Jordan's portrayal of Johnny Storm aka the Human Torch. I don't care. Nor do I see any genuine justification that it "makes sense" for Superman to be portrayed only by a non-white actor.

I'd hate to lose Cavill - I like him better than any of the other movie Supermen.

This writer's take on the question struck me as a lot more perceptive and entertaining - and yeah, relevant - than most of the click-bait that I see posted in these comic book movie topics, so I'm afraid I'm unabashed.

So Mary Elizabeth Winstead has been cast as the Huntress for Birds of Prey...

...Since Bruce is clearly an older guy here, you think they'll make her his daughter like in the original story or make her unconnected? Maybe they're estranged, that's why he never mentioned her before?

Having seen Winstead in Sky High and Scott Pilgrim Versus the World, I wouldn't have pictured her for Huntress. I'm not familiar with the other actress.

She was the daughter of the Earth-2 version. Not sure if Movie Bruce is old enough to have a daughter in her early 30's (Winestead is 33). Though of course she could be playing younger.
