Season 2 and Beyond (not the movie) Wishlist.

I didn't see any threads pertaining to this so I figured I'd make one. So anything you'd like to see in Season 2 or beyond season 2?

For me personally I would like to see...

The Discovery crew transition to the colored uniforms we saw in the season 2 trailer. It looks like that won't happen but it might in the future.

Federation Starships that have a similar design aesthetic to the Discovery Enterprise.

A visit to a Starbase that looks like K7 abit modernized.

That's all I can think of at the moment. If I have anything more I'll post it. But now I want to hear from you. Anyone?

Free Burnham from the straightjacket of her convoluted backstory. Let the character breathe and stand on her own more often, without drawing so heavily on her family connections. Let her be happy, or at least not tortured.

Less torture for the characters in general would be good. If they're going to do something like kill off Culber, make sure there is time to explore the fallout (especially for Stamets in this case). Otherwise, don't do it.

If the show is continuing with season arcs, they should make sure they can stick the landing.

Fewer long speeches, especially long subtitled speeches.

I hope they're able to maintain the balancing act it seems like they're setting up for Season 2.

S2 looks like it'll have more balls in the air than S1 where the focus was the Klingon War, Burnham, and a side-trip to the Mirror Universe. The character arc of Burnham was a through-line but there was no intersection between the Mirror Universe and Klingon War meaning no story arcs progressing at the same time. In S2 of DSC, I think they'll unfold at the same time. I can see how Section 31, Harry Mudd, and the Continuing Klingon Storyline might connect to each other but I don't see how they would connect to Pike's spore-jumping journey on the Discovery... though I could see them unfolding parallel, where one week focuses more on one storyline than the other, and vice versa.

The closest example -- within Star Trek -- is DS9 Season 7. The first two episodes, "Treachery, Faith, and the Great River", and the last 10 episodes essentially give you a 13-episode season of modern television with several overlapping and continuing storylines. I'd just swap out the B-story in "Treachery, Faith, and the Great River" with a truncated version of "Afterimage". Then you have everything you need to know about S7. They managed to juggle a lot. I hope DSC S2 does the same.

I think I'd like to see them continue to gravitate away from the original premise that Fuller devised (Klingon war, etc) and move toward more awe-and-discovery (pun unintended) adventures. Continue to develop the relationships and chemistry between the characters, which is the show's biggest area for potential right now. Avoid being TNG preachy and go toward TOS allegory and adventure.

I like to see them continue to pepper in the TOS linkages, as long as they are relevant to the story and the characters. I think that's a unique element of this series that the others were missing.

Don't over-do the "fun." I don't want The Orville Redux, nor do I want dour and serious all the time. Find the balance that other successful Trek shows have had and run with that.

Above all, if they're going to do serialized arcs...have them extremely well planned and paced. Commit to the story and the conclusion to that story, and go balls-out and tell it. Don't worry about "TEH FANS" or anything else. Tell a great story with interesting characters and locations, and the love will continue to follow.

I selfishly ask to see a Daedalus. I know it has nothing to do with the show, or the stories or qualities. I don't care if its a burned out wreck, reassigned to hauling junk, I just want to see one.

Stamets' great-grandmother served on a Daedalus Class Starship during "The War".

Add to the list something I'd like to see: Stamets' spore-created thought balloons!

I want the thought balloons to outdo the circle on That '70s Show. Stamets channeling Hyde, "I have this crazy idea! Instead of Discovery running on spore drive, it runs on water, man. It runs on water!"

As you wish

I want a "Lower Decks" like episode, but it's called "Upper Decks" and features the main crew (the Chief Engineer, the CMO, Airiam), in a big adventure while Burnham and the gang are off doing something else barely touched on. Expensive actors a must.

Robert April needs to be involved, somehow. I don't care about Pike or Spock or Number One or other nonconsequential cameos. We need April. Now more than ever.

I don't care if you Disco-ize them or give them messed-up nacelles, but we need classic ships. We need the Miranda, the Antares, the Federation, the Saladin, the Einstein or even the Ptolemy class starships. Especially the Ptolemy class.

And the Saurian is a great step. Let's continue with Rhaandarites, Caitians, Bolians, Tzenkethi, Tiburonians (correctly this time), Denobulans, and Chameloids. Fix the Tellarites and Orions too.

Bring back Mudd. Get Tyler back on the ship. If you're really bringing Culber back from the dead, don't kill him off again. Let's make the new Captain less evil. Have Section 31 be completely inept and "reformed" by their Luciferian deal with Georgiou.

Do not, I repeat, do not focus a series of episodes on young Jim Kirk wallowing in misery after the loss of his crew on the USS Farragut. Nothing good lies down that road.

Instead, delve deeply and thoroughly into whatever Emony Dax is up to right now. Maybe she can help spirit Tyler out of Qo'noS and into the hands of Starfleet.

I appreciate your wishes and the clear conviction behind them. I want...none of that. My comment is not intended to rain on your parade but rather to illustrate the difficulties in pleasing “the fans”, if the producers choose that motive to inform their choices.

Of course, as with all Trek, I’ll still watch it if all of the above is what we get. I may even find it ranks among the best of Trek. But my list of wants would have none of the above. Different strokes and all...

Longer episodes, better pacing.
A few more stand alone episodes
more exploration
tighter story arc
I wouldn't mind Discovery firing phaser beams instead of pulse phasers, prefereably with the TOS style phaser effect

Tilly and Burnham wearing sombreros and eating licorice whilst playing Mario Kart with holographic Wii race wheels.

Better yet make it full on Smash Brothers with Stamets and Tig.

this is something i rarely see mentioned but it's something i want to see as well.

there's so much bloat in streaming service TV (i feel like netflix's marvel series are interminably drawn out), but discovery's season 1 episodes flew by. discovery's world is so much richer than marvel's hell's kitchen but i have very little grasp who the crew is and what the ship is like, what the universe is like in this iteration. i'd love longer episodes that explore the world and characters AND tell cool sci-fi stories.

as for the rest of my wish list: levity, color, light. really hope the SDCC trailer is reflective of season 2's tone.

I definitely agree with "longer episodes." I know they edit and pace these for broadcast TV (SPACE, correct?)...but they can put a 55-65 min episode together and show the edited for commercials one on the broadcast channels. There's so much richness and development that can be accomplished in just 15 mins of extra time. Heck, with an average of 45 mins per episode, it takes just 3 episodes at 60 mins to basically give you one additional episode worth of content.

I mean, we know for a fact that the Pahvo episode was apparently heavily cut. This is why the stuff with Cornwell and L'Rell makes little sense - lots of dialogue between the two characters was shot, but never made it to the screen.

For the life of me I can't see why they'd do this. Unless the decision was made before post-production and they decided not spend the $$$ on whatever additional VFX or whatever the scenes needed.

Agreed...and that was a terrible, poorly edited episode. It was so obvious while watching it.

I have no idea why they don't go longer on the streaming services and BR versions, and make a broadcast edit that fits for time. Seems awfully lazy.
