Captain Marvel (2019)

So, they kept the stupid amnesia of the early Ms Marvel comics, but instead of forgetting being Ms. Marvel, she forgets being human? I get that its brainwashing, its still stupid (and something the Kree only did once, in a comic from a few years ago, and it was just a sound frequency that brainwashed carol and a Mar-Vell clone, I'm probably the only one that remembers that short arc in an Avengers book anyway so it doesn't help this movie). Well, this is certainly the second worst trailer for a 2019 superhero movie. If Marvel didn't have Avengers 4 next year, I'd loathe every film the MCU was releasing (Captain Marvel and Spider-Man are both movies I already hate, Spidey because I didn't like Homecoming and so didn't want a sequel, and CM for reasons stated over and over at this point). Also, brie Larson really doesn't have the presense (for lack of a better word) of Carol danvers or just a superhero in general. Also, Mar-Vell looks like a math teacher cosplaying on his day off.

As it is, we have 8 superhero/comic book films (if you count Joker, and if Dark Phoenix and New Mutants actually release) coming out next year, and the only ones that are actually going to be good are Avengers 4 and Wonder Woman 1984. 2019 is going to be the worst year for superhero movies since the pre-Iron Man era. To be fair to Captain Marvel, it can't be the worst comic book movie of 2019 (since Shazam exists). Hell, with joker and New Mutants (supposedly, in NM case) coming out, Captain Marvel might only make it to fourth worse. But, in any other year this would easily be the worst superhero movie. This is the kind of female lead superhero movie we used to get pre-WW, except I think it will end up being worse then Elektra and maybe even worse then Supergirl . It will probably also piss me off more then Catwoman, but just being Marvel means it will at least be a better made film that that.

Good, let the petulance flow through you.

I also like how this movie seems to be a twist on the usual superhero origin story. As in it starts off with her already haven gotten powers and is apparently a veteran of sorts...but she's had the person she was before stripped away from her. So this is less about her getting power, but taking control of her life and finding out who she really is.
Yeah, I really like that aspect, too, and that kind of take is refreshing for origin stories.

I also like how the focus is more about Carol regaining her agency, as emphasized by the smash cut of her at different ages literally standing up.

Why am I just now noticing Chewie is on the poster? If there's not a Rocket/Flerken showdown in Avengers 4 I'll be very disappointed.

Not just standing up, but standing up right after falling/being knocked down.
I'm also noticing the camera keeps doing this thing where it rolls on it's axis. Scene transition for the flashbacks maybe?

Man, that was a great trailer.
I didn't realize they did a memory loss thing in the comics, so I had just assumed that was something they came up with just for the movie.
Carol not remember her life on Earth before she got her powers is an unexpected twist.

Is happy even a setting for your life?

...she's had the person she was before stripped away from her.

Amnesia is very tropey, but it is what it is.

The worst part about the trailer is I just feel no screen-presence or charisma in Brie Larson. She just doesn't have that special something that feature film stars should have. Gal Gadot has it. Brie does not. She's as bland as wonderbread.

Did the other message boards you posted this on ban you for this one, or no?

Oh no, a girls movie. As a white male I feel threatened and ashamed of my small penis. I'm sure if I see this in theatres I will get cooties. I mean, I'm obviously seeing this in theatres (but I'm only hate-watching this movie, don't think I'm enjoying this) but I don't think it's fair we have to share our theatres with girls. I'm bringing my fort along and securing a corner which will be 100% Dude Central. Yep, a corner of Dudes, hanging out, being rambunctious, with no girls allowed. We'll be performing wrestling moves, getting sweaty and hard, and those girls are going to have to watch us knowing what they're missing.

;)

Trailer makes it look like a fun, by-the-numbers Marvel movie. I'll be watching. I hope the "uncanny valley" de-aged Coulson and Fury aren't distracting.
