I'm willing to bet the majority of Schmo's have no idea who Patrick Stewart is either. They might on a good day know "Captain Picard" or "That bald guy in X-Men"

Patrick Stewart really isn't that famous. He's probably most recognized as being McKellen's bestie.
I really hope the new series isn't some super-fanwank about the governments and powers of the Galaxy maneuvering and relating to each other in various treacherous and political ways.
I have a suspicion that's exactly what they're going to do, though...
You know... the Cardassians have aligned with the Tholians and started a conflict with the Romulans, who have paired with the Federation, but it's really a ruse to influence Klingon politics so they can take over the Breen homeworld in order to pay off debts to the Ferengi...that is until the Gorn show up with Bajoran prisoners as bargaining chips to get the Andorians to separate from the Federation. And Ambassador Picard is at the center of it all!!!!

Were you a Trek fan in the early 90s? TNG was "water cooler" material. Everyone knew Picard and Stewart. They even had his face on like slurpee cup type merchandise. You couldn't get away from it, even if you wanted to. STD just doesn't have that kind of penetration.

That was over 20 years ago. And DSC isn't meant to be that kind of show. The market and delivery method are completely different.
You're comparing apples to rubick's cubes.
And I would not expect that.
I've been a Trek fan since the 60's. I was there when TNG premiered and was home every night to catch the newest episode. Being on a Slurpee cup just means the studio made a deal with 7-11. Joe Schmo goes to 7-11 for a Slurpee he doesn't care who's face is on the cup. Joe Fanboy might go there for the cup. But there are more Schmos than Fanboys. Yeah the show was popular. A lot of people watched it. But watching a show doesn't mean they know or care who Stewart/Picard is outside of the one hour a week they spend watching TNG.
If Yeoh's main claim to fame was DISCO, you might have a point about it's penetration.
One of the more interesting "Bond Girls," and was fantastic in Tiger/Dragoon. I haven't seen Crazy Rich Asians yet, but how many productions has she been in where she carried the show?
And I had no clue who Patrick Stewart was prior to TNG. In spite having seen him in several SF films and in I, Claudius before TNG.
It was #1 for at least three weeks, I believe. And has wildly exceeded expectations at the box office.

Much more unbelievable things happen, nowadays.
I love Tomorrow Never Dies. It's probably the most underrated Bond movie. That David Arnold soundtrack is amazing. I wish the newer Bond movies had soundtracks that great. Anyway this isn't the place for that discussion. Carry on.
