Random Thoughts...or...What's on Your Mind?

Does anyone feel like some of the series threads get way too unnecessarily heated sometimes? People get really upset when talking about Star Trek. And kind of rude.

It leads me to hiding in here and TNZ.

Captain Sully (Sullenberger)... most everyone recognizes his name. Saved all souls aboard his Airbus A320 by making a water landing. A hero.

But the FAA wasn't quite ready to treat him as such. They had simulation runs of the scenario done by a number of pilots and were able to achieve a safe landing at La Guardia or Teterboro. When there was a hearing to confront Capt. Sully about this, he reset the context and proved them wrong.

Just goes to show you... sometimes heroes have to fight for the truth.

Exactly! It’s entertainment not politics.

Gotta disagree with you here. Trek is almost all politics and morality plays, but it's about accepting differences and attempting to resolve issues. That, in my opinion, is where people seem to miss the point.

Yeah, I mean even politics, if you’re confident enough in your point there’s no need for people to be rude and dismissive. I think it’s unnecessary for things to stoop to that level.

Sometimes people have a beef for some personal reason. Maybe they've had a bad day. Or maybe it bothers them when someone they don't really like is debating something (so they can't help but try interjecting with insults). The thing is, they think it'll make them feel better either a) successfully dissing or putting down someone, or b) being right about a topic of discussion. There are a lot of people out there who can't resist going on an "I'm right" parade and try to reach the end in triumph. When someone won't let go and keeps them from doing it (because the need to correct is strong) then things get heated up.

I call it "forum rage"... something like "road rage" on-line. ;)

(p.s. great Odo / Lwaxana quotes, btw)

How far is too far and how far is not far enough? Letting the kids play out , out of sight of the house. Worries me when I can’t hear the youngest, because he is a loud incessant talker.

Got to loosen the apron strings at some point, they know to stay off the road, they know not to talk to strangers, they know to stay away from the railway, not to eat the berries, to stay off the neighbours gardens.

They’ll be fine, but the imagined dangers and real risks are very much on my mind.

Is there such a thing as too much Prog?

After a month long binge, I can confidently surmise "Nope"

Hugo - into the jazzy French stuff now

Having a play to figure out how to create certain shapes nearly procedurally in 3ds Max.

On a few minor manual edits to get these shapes:

They're the same model, one with one modifier active and the other with another.

I like the Feline thread and the Voyager forum to remind myself of a kind of common ground. You know what I mean? Like cats and animals are fascinating and your favourite Trek is why we all gravitated to this site in the first place. There's like no pressure and it's cool.

Yeah!! I feel like that with a lot of the Misc threads, like this one particularly.

I haven’t spent much time in VOY, I’m still finishing up the series still, but the cat thread is always fun to pop into when I’m stressed.
