Would you liked Enterprise if the ship was the XCV-330?

Of course not :). Like I said: I’m no expert on the design of the XCV-330. From the simple picture we saw of her in TMP, it just didn’t look like a vessel that could ‘kick ass’ like the NX-01.

Having said that: thanks for quoting my post, otherwise I would probably have never stumbled upon your website :D. Very cool design! Is this a prose project or screenplay format?

The ship does look more spindly than what we are used to. In my version the world building is different. The Enterprise is a science ship and not as heavily armed. Yet, as hard scifi, the space battles would be more realistic, so evasion and jamming of targeting systems is just as important as having weapons to slug it out. Though, I think you'll have to quantify what being able to "kick ass" means. Is it pew-pew ability, or maneuverability, physical presence, or sleekness, etc?

Thank you. It has been a blast working on this project, even though it's not progressing as fast as I would like. I haven't yet decided if it will be prose or screenplay. For my own personal fantasy reasons I would like it to be screenplay. However, that's a format that isn't as accessible to the broader audience. Maybe I'll do both. Each episode could have a screenplay and then a "novelization."

I thought so as well, it would've been interesting to see the crew working things out as they went along from mission to mission with Matt Jefferies XCV-330, and discovered where they felt the designs for exploration will go in the future which would be TOS. I would've like to see a very primitive approach in going into the "Space Warp" based on Zefram Cochrane's (Metamorphosis) pioneering technology. Something similar to what Benjamin Sisko did in his Neil Armstrong-type discovery in the episode "Explorers".

To me, NX-01 felt like a design based upon some alteration in the space/time continuum; Jean-Luc Picard and his crew were responsible for changing the timeline when they fought the Borg Queen in Star Trek: First Contact.

I would have liked that design but the problems with the show go deeper than that. It would have still had the same episodes, the same production values as Voyager, it would still have rehashed stories. Enterprise was the time when Star Trek needed to move on with the rest of television but got stuck playing the same cards.

I think the XCV-330 would've been a fine ship to have had for the show, especially if she weren't suited for combat, to emphasis that her mission was intended to be one of peaceful exploration and scientific study.

XCV-330 would have resulted in more of an "Interstellar" type show where the main risk is the fragility of the ship. If other races were out there they would have been more advanced and you'd have to avoid combat at all costs.

I always liked the NX-01 design. But to me, forever and always, it will be an upside-down akira class ship. TBH, before I first saw Enterprise, I imagined the ship would look like some kind of rocket ship, kind of like what Galaxy Quest had done. Either that or some kind of blocky, technologically mish-mashed freighter.

I remember when the design was first released to the public in some TV Guide piece, it looked a little different. I remember as a kid going, "That's it?" I thought it was kind of simply. I expected the large and grand generational-kind-of-ship, given how they were presenting Ensign Mayweather as being a space boomer and all.

Personally, I was expecting something a little different than what had come before. Instead, we got a TNG ship with a pre-TOS wallpaper. (Which is kind of ironic considering the TNG sets are TOS Movie sets with TNG wallpaper.....lol)

I hoped that Enterprise would be a Daedalus class.
Like CommanderTrip I only saw a up side down Akira class.

To the original question, heck yes. I came to accept the NX-01, but I would've loved if they had went with the XCV 330. It would've made the show Enterprise stand out more from TOS and TNG from a design perspective and reinforced that we are in a prequel era, with a non-Federation Starfleet. Though if I had my druthers, there wouldn't have been a Starfleet in ENT either, perhaps just the United Earth Space Probe Agency or the United Earth Stellar Navy, as in the proposed Star Trek: The Beginning movie. And over the course of the series we see the organization evolve into what we know as Starfleet as Earth inches toward becoming ready for a Federation. The ringship design also would've been a way to show visually the influence of the Vulcans on human space exploration, for good or ill. (I loved the Vulcan ringships).

Absent that, I think making the Enterprise a Daedalus class would've been sweet as well. It's a shame we never saw a Daedalus during the run of ENT.

The ship was the least of the show's problems.

I like your thinking on this. Though I might have included several Stiles on the show at points, or mentioned them, to keep some suspense about who dies during the Romulan War.

I didn't dislike Enterprise because of the ship. The ship was fine.

I disliked Enterprise because they cluttered it up with that "temporal cold war" nonsense.

I like the XCV-330 even less than the NX-01, to be honest. While I was truly one of those during ENT's initial run that thought the NX-01 didn't really fit as a TOS prequel ship, "In A Mirror, Darkly" changed my mind when I saw the Constitution-class Defiant opening big cans of whup-ass on 22nd-Century ships. Now I can't imagine ENT without the NX-class.

I like Enterprise and the NX class. Like many fans I think the stories of the first 2 seasons weren’t that strong. Some seemed like rewrites from other series. Seasons 3 and 4 were much improved. I was sad when it was canceled. The title of this thread was incorrect. I should have written as Would you still have liked Enterprise if the ship was the XCV-330?

It would point up the naivete we saw anyway from time to time even with the NX-01, "hey look, aliens! let's go say hi", then proceed to get their butts shot up.

Some of that is just from the Vulcans being buttheads and not giving Earth any specific warnings before going out.

"You didn't tell us there was a huge interstellar empire of human eating warriors with double-naughty bits right on our celestial front door. You just spent the last 7 decades showing us how to be peaceful." -United Earth envoy
