I believe they were real. The wife recently started believing they were fake.

To be the fact that you can bounce a laser off the reflector is definitive proof we were there. That and all the other theorys were debunked.

Any hoaxers here? If so what's your take?

Someone explained to me that if they were fake, it would essentially mean the Cold War was a hoax too, since the Soviet Union confirmed that it was real.

Interesting theory, but to be honest I don’t care that much about the moon to have an opinion.

The importance of "going to the moon" seems to escape too many people today. The entire event was a competition between the worlds two great superpowers to do something that DIDN'T mean killing people but, accomplishing something meaningful...

It was a technical challenge, an economic challenge and a bit of a political challenge. In many ways, just as important as Magellan's voyage around the world just after Columbus "discovered" the new world (in quotes since, he didn't believe it was a new world and he didn't really discover it first anyway).

This was a VERY real event, and advanced many technologies in both the USA and Russia at the same time. There actually was a short lived consideration given to doing it together, rather than individually - that part didn't happen.

Most of the conspiracy theorists have had a personal (financial) stake in making up these ridiculous claims - they sell books...

Not only do I believe that the moon landings were real but I struggle with understanding why people think they would be faked. It's completely baffling to me.

The only thing (well two things) that have even entertaining the idea is:

    1. How completely uncomfortable they look in their interview when they return. But it's probably just because they're so tired.

    2. The video where it looks like they're trying to fake how far away the Earth is with camera trickery.

But I agree 99% of it is complete nonsense

    Yes, 99% nonsense.
I do have a lingering curiosity about the footage though.
-about how no one ever jumps higher than they could on Earth, just to try it, and how sped up, it looks rather like normal terrestrial hopping around.
It's pretty clear that we really did send a lander though. If there's any mystery, I think it's probably dry-run practice footage accidentally released as the real thing.

Put it this way, once I've lied to you about really anything, why would you trust anything I every told you again?

The moon landings were undertaken by the government, which occasionally has lied to the people it serves.

I believe that the landings took place, but I understand people who hold the opposite belief.

People who believe this don't bother me, and to be honest I don't understand people who get upset by people who don't think the landings happened.

If you are in fact bothered, can you explain why?

I'm not bothered. I enjoy conspiracy theories and regularly listen to podcasts and radio shows around such topics. But, this is one that has always confused me.

Crazy conspiracy theories can be entertaining to read about, but no, I do not for a minute believe the moon landings were fake.

That’s the thing, I never expected the American government to be honest in the first place. I pretty much anticipate that they’re lying about most things.

    Trust no one. :rommie:

    It’s the Americans so there’s a possibility. ;)
I thought there’s was a Japanese rocket going up to confirm it.

A conspiracy of that magnitude would mean that a lot of people kept their traps shut for a long, long time. Doubtful then, impossible now.

I watched it all on live TV. No doubt in my mind that it happened.

Almost forgot -- the earth is round. :techman:

I believe in something or at least query it that I think others would feel I was nuts for doing so. (No this is not religion, lol). We live on a planet with a level of scientific capabilities and vision. We tell ourselves there is advanced life forms out there. Well where are they? Why haven't they rocked up yet? And if they have why has every single 'example' been one of secrecy? That wouldn't happen with every supposed case?

What if we ARE the most advanced out there? Someone has to be. It could be Earthlings. What a let down if that is the case that all these other life forms in the Universe are waiting on us.

    Here you go.

    Specifically:

However, if we look closely on the original moon landing footage, we can see that the flag is actually standing still, and not moving in any way during the entire tape. But why is the flag still?

To make the flag stand still on the moon, the flag was actually made from plastic material, similar to the one that tents are usually made of . For practical reasons, the flag was originally folded to maximize space and stored in a thin tube. After Neil Armstrong planted it to the surface of the Moon, it briefly appeared to move as it was unfolding itself to its final shape.

I always thought them putting an American flag on the moon was a rather douchey thing to do. America can't just say they own the moon. :)
