minor nitpicks

Sillies, the First Federation started out near the terminus of one of the spiral arms, the Second Federation is located at Star's End on the opposite side of the galaxy. At least, that's what the entry in the Encyclopedia Galactica says.

^^Aww, I trying to be all cryptic and non-spoilery ;) [looks at GNDN18 suspiciously] Besides, only a Second Federationer would know that...

The United Federation of Planets was a term coined by Gene L. Coon and he wasn't part of the series when The Corobomite Maneuver was written. The earliest terms used for the group the Enterprise report to were Earth centric, like UESPA in Charlie X and not actually said in full as the United Earth Space Probe Agency until Tomorrow is Yesterday, which was actually after Coon arrived, so perhaps it's a department of Star Fleet Command. Although, I'm sure this will spark a 15 page discussion as to why it doesn't count beyond two episodes.... anyway....

It is weird that it's the "First" Federation. If they hadn't planned the UFP yet, what is the second federation?

Maybe it's like all of those 1st Banks, 1st Baptist Church, or other "first" businesses that are everywhere. Maybe the writer just went to the bank before he thought of the name.

There was a Galactic Federation in Doctor Who's Curse of Peladon which in itself was a reworking of journey to Babel except it was set on a stormy planet rather than a besieged starship!

In Squire of Gothos why were they in such a hurry to leave? Why didn't they just hang out with Trelane for awhile till he got bored and let them go? Their mission is to seek out and study new civilizations yet they acted like they were terrified of Trelane and wanted to get away from him as fast as possible

They have self-esteem issues. When has Kirk been in friendly terms with demonstrably superior forces? When facing an entity that can swat him like a bug, Kirk tends to make his excuses and "continue his mission" ASAP, even if said entity is not making hostile moves.

Kirk is often forced to negotiate. Unless he can do so from a position of power, though, he tends to concentrate on gaining a position of power. No way to do that with Trelane.

As soon as the said aliens begin abusing his crew Kirk says it's time to beam up back to the ship despite his orders to explore new worlds and new civilizations!

Savage Curtain...the Security Guard Honor Detail's lack of precision in raising their phasers at the same time when Lincoln beams aboard. C'mon, red shirts, practice for the next time a president comes aboard the Enterprise.

In their defense, most of them are new.

Mr.Dickerson looked a bit less than with it I always thought!

While waiting for the next president to come aboard the Enterprise, Mr. Dickerson relaxes until he is called to duty.

After President Lincoln came aboard I thought Dickerson was going to smile, throw some confetti in the air and then throw a black plimsole into Kirk's ear! :guffaw:
