I forget, what's the first episode we'll be watching?
Just a reminder, the show comes back for its third season in a month, and so does this thread.
Hope to see the regular folks back, and of course anyone else who wants to join in on the airdate anniversary rewatch fun is more than welcome!![]()
So if I get the idea of this thread right, everyone is watching one episode per week and then there's review/general discussion about it? I'd also be interested in participating![]()
"Spock's Brain"... What an intriguing title! I can't wait to see what they'll come up with!*
Want to start the season off with a bang? Spock...in PERIL!
That means three out of five of the TOS/TAS season openers have centered around Spock in trouble. "Amok Time", "Spock's Brain", and "The Pirates of Orion" (Spock is sick and needs medicine, if you'll recall.) Want to start the season off with a bang? Spock...in PERIL! "da da DAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!"![]()
When I saw Spock's Brain, I also thought ok, it's not really that good, but to be honest, I think there are much worse episodes actually. Such as "Miri" for example, or "The Corbonite Maneuver". At least from having seen them one time so far, those were quite the TOS episodes I liked less, out of all three seasons.
Nothing compares to "Plato's Stepchildren"... I was ashamed that people might see me watching it... Some scenes are beyond ridiculous.
MY HEART!When I saw Spock's Brain, I also thought ok, it's not really that good, but to be honest, I think there are much worse episodes actually. Such as ... "The Corbonite Maneuver".
What "happened" is no network was interested in the premise, so The Bird turned it into a Star Trek episode to make a "backdoor pilot" using Star Trek's money. No one bit on that, either. In short, he tried to ram it down their their throats and they wouldn't open their mouths.Whatever you call it, something was done that prevented it from entering production.
Hold on. You DON'T like Corbomite Maneuver?????When I saw Spock's Brain, I also thought ok, it's not really that good, but to be honest, I think there are much worse episodes actually. Such as "Miri" for example, or "The Corbonite Maneuver". At least from having seen them one time so far, those were quite the TOS episodes I liked less, out of all three seasons.
Have you met johnnybear?Nothing compares to "Plato's Stepchildren"... I was ashamed that people might see me watching it... Some scenes are beyond ridiculous.
Corbomite is the best episode ever. Well much closer to the best episode than Spock's Brain.
Its one of my favourites for exactly the reasons you've explained. Kirk was terrific in this episode and Spock just crushing that vase... The guest star Alexander ws great (ha ha) - so much to like about this episode.I agree, nevertheless I actually liked the episode. It's true, some scenes are extremely cringeworthy from the watcher's point of view, but I think it made perfectly sense regarding the plot. I don't remember exactly all the details, but this villain wanted to break Kirk and his crew also mentally somehow to enslave them, if I remember correctly. And to achieve that, it's an efficient way for him to humiliate his victims like he does. I think it's one of the cases where the scenes look ridiculous, but the situation is actually quite serious. I prefer that definitely to episodes which are also cringeworthy but are actually meant to be funny.
I think recently we've managed to convince johnnybear lately that Plato is not that bad.Have you met johnnybear?
