Disney fires James Gunn from "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3"

Looks like DC has a new star director they can get hold of. Could you imagine a Superman movie staring Chris Pratt. Or another character that better suits them.

Warners would be insane--and deserve a torrential flood of scandal to go anywhere near Gunn's bottom-scraping self.

...and no, no one would imagine Pratt as Superman. That would be casting so horrible that Keaton as Batman would now look like the greatest act of casting in film history.
Live by the sword, die by the sword. Who cares if he lost out to an alt-Right agenda. It was his own words that got him in the end.
Exactly. As you see, some are using a rather compromised set of morals (and in certain cases, selective outrage) to frame their reaction to this scandal--as if the source is to blame for Gunn's despicable interests/behavior. In other words, "If they would just leave him alone, n--n--no-one would know, and he could be exactly where we want him to be on the next Marvel movie!" Enabling behavior in the larger view of things.

Gunn paid but a small price for "joking" about pedophilia and rape.

Clearly some would care but not as many as you think would. Granted that can change depending on future revelations and the state of society and so forth. If they keep the script that alone is Disney saying they screwed up but even though they can't backdown and hire him back they understand they made a mistake. Or that they haven't already hired a new director which means even they know they can't rush things and got to make sure the actors are cool with whoever they hire. Hell I bet they would even be hoping Gunn endorses whoever they hire next.

Me I could see Pratt doing Supermen though to be honest I have a hard time seeing Gunn doing it. Not sure who DC has in terms of more eccentric types but I am guessing that is who he would be more interested in. What about Elastic Man or whatever his name is on "The Flash." That seems like a Gunn type of character. Maybe the sequel to "Aquaman." Better yet another "Justice League" movie only this time you got a new Batman and Superman and maybe a few more added people like Batgirl or Shazam or whatever takes off.

This is worth a read. Of course many here have already labeled him a Bad guy and will never see him as anything else. That his sense of humor was his way of dealing with his own childhood experiences and if the proper context does not matter..... FU! That includes those at Disney who he likely gave more personal details than he is comfortable giving in public.

The worst thing is that the people who made it into an issue weren't really upset. They were a group of alt-right white nationalist trolls mad at Gunn because he was liberal and very much against the alt-right and other dangerous groups. This was politically motivated and a dangerous precedent, this will happen again.
For the Alt-Right - They saw it as Tit for Tat; IE - Disney fired Rosanne Barr (a vocal Trump supporter); so someone probably recalled James Gunn's (a vocal Trump detractor) apology for some tweets and blogs BEFORE he directed GoGT in 2011, and figured if they could r-raise awareness in a different way, Disney would either fire him too; or they could call Disney a bunch of hypocrites and 'punish' them for their firing of Barr.

It's really disgusting and the two situations aren't really comparable. I also find it disgusting that some, many with disgusting internet comments of their own, are now claiming some moral superiority. Suddenly people with a complete lack of empathy and basic human decency are concerned for children, at least when it benefits them. They certainly don't care enough that they still support the side that is locking children in cages, where they actually are being molested. But let's just ignore that.

Consistency. It's done now. He really only has himself to blame.

Surely you meant "live by the pen, die by the pen"?
What's a pen?
Surely you mean "live by twitter, die by twitter"?

This situation really sucks but the alt right are using the tactics of leftists to take down people.

I imagine DC is driving trucks of money to Gunn's house at this moment.

51 pages of blather and stupidity.

Q: Why would something from 2012 that wasn't too big of a deal be a big deal in 2018?

A: An investor or sponsor didn't like it. Maybe it was one from then even but they don't like it now and they were going to pull their money. Done.

The moral outrage and the vast right wing conspiracies are bullshit, it's money, like everything else in Hollywood.

I care, because this sets an insanely fucking dangerous precedent. All this has done is show them that Hollywood will back down, and given them the opportunity to start clearing Hollywood out of any of the people they don't like. I'm a bit nervous to see who they're going to get fired next, or if other people in Hollywood have balls enough to not give in to them.
I'm pretty much as liberal as you can get, and the thought that Gunn got fired because some alt-rit dipshits didn't like what he was saying about Trump really pisses me off.

It will get really scary when election time happens because this strategy goes beyond Hollywood. Wait until we get I guess they use to call a bunch of October surprises with found Twitter folley by candiates. The blue wave will die before it even reaches shore. One thing that bothers me though is even though this was a alt-right dirty trick it still wouldn't have worked if many liberals hadn't taken the bait allowing these trolls to have leverage into creating fear in Disney. When it comes down to the way internet discourse has de-evolved it has empowered Trolls almost as much a real world talk by people like Trump. People talk to each way to often on the internet in hostile ways they would never speak to another person in real life. I think it makes people more angry, more unhappy and also easier to be tricked by these kinds of trolls

No one was morally outraged, it was people pretending to be outraged to push an agenda. And it's not a vast right wing conspiracy, it's a small group of white nationalist trolls who are trying to take down anyone who disagrees with their politics. Disney overreacted and now they're trying to save face by sticking to their guns.

Actually it looks like they are trying again with the Rick and Morty guy and its coming to a big fat nothing.

No one is morally outraged by anything he said. If they said they do, they're either the dumbest person alive or they're lying to because of some agenda. Read your own thread.

The box has been opened and everyone and their entire history is now fair game. The left was to short sighted to see their own tactic could be turned against them.
