I’m a little embarrassed to do this, but wasn’t that book called DRAGON’S HONOR?

Don't be embarrassed:-). Even authors can't escape the dreaded auto-correct. It was a good book though

This is what I'm excited about though: https://web.facebook.com/TheDavidMack/posts/10155987965944005 && https://web.facebook.com/david.alan.mack/posts/10214349605193013.

Maybe this is the backstory of the series?

Man, I'd love to see the Destiny trilogy canonized. However, this could just be Mack capitalizing on the coincidence that the new trademark and his books share a name. I'd be trying to sell my books left and right any chance I get.

...Or he could be telling us everything by telling us nothing, and that combined with what Dayton Ward had said about being in the know for a LONG time as he was writing the ongoing TNG books, along with Beyer working on the Picard show, the circumstantial evidence is building up that some of the novelverse might be canonized. I'm willing to hold out hope for that, because honestly, the amount of news and the content of that news we've gotten about Star Trek in the last two years has all been 'OMG REALLY?'

A lot of things that three or four years ago if we had heard would be the biggest LOL NO WAY kind of stuff...Spore Drive, Spock's Adopted Sister, Quentin Tarantino's Star Trek, A Khan Miniseries, A PICARD SHOW, potential Academy series, etc. Why not add, 'They started pulling from the novels for ideas to canonize!' Especially when the DSC books seem to be so closely connected to the development of the series as far as sending the books the right information about the future show.

But yeah, that's the steadfast optimist in me. I'm sure he was just trying to sell some books with a nice lead-in with the DESTINY rumors.

Mack can be pretty leaky, but he's also being careful not to do anything stronger than an implication. "Liking" posts on the TrekBBS, and making ambiguously-worded statements about finding out "why" without being clear if it's "why people are talking" or "why the show is called that." It feels like he's more excited than if he were just trying to pump an eBook sale, but maybe I've just underestimated his degree of hustle and he'd jump on any weird coincidence to promote his books, and we just happened to get this one.

And pulling from the books isn't unprecedented. The writers of Star Trek '09 even put out a reading list, and specifically called out Teenage Dirtbag Jimmy Kirk from Best Destiny as an inspiration.

Though, I would say that unless they're doing an animated adaptation or something, making a miniseries or TV movie based on Destiny would, ironically, be a cataclysmic event for the novelverse. I only stop short of saying that it would end it entirely because I can remember audacious continuity patches like the way the rights-holders to the Brigadier from Doctor Who reconciled their backstory of the character with the show having a different take on his grandfather in the most recent Christmas special. A live-action adaptation of Destiny would almost certainly make fundamental changes to the specifics of when it takes place, the characters involved (who can imagine the whole thing pivoting on the captain of the sidekick-ship in the final season of the least-beloved series? On the other hand, three episodes of DSC did revolve around the Defiant...), and the scope, even considering how more faithful adaptations of genre books are in-style these days. Now, an animation, that I could see following the books. Not sure I can list off all the reasons why I feel like that makes a difference (aside from actor stuff), but I do.

Ah, twenty-two years after her last episode aired and fifteen years after her last onscreen appearance, Jessica Fletcher is still racking up victims and framing innocent bystanders, eh? ;)

I always thought Destiny would make an excellent on screen adventures. But I tend to agree with others, even if they kept the basic story intact there'd probably be substantial changes to the details. Partly because I'm not sure they could get all the actors back. It featured significant characters from TNG, DS9 and Voyager. Special effects and things like that I'm sure they'd have no problem with. Esp. in this day and age with CGI and advances they've made.

But the biggest limitation to a faithful adaptation is the sheer number of characters. And don't forget Columbia too (well, I guess in that case all they'd really need is Captain Hernandez--I don't recall the other characters being featured on screen previously).

Now I'm sure some of the actors would jump at the chance. Other not so much. Would Robert Beltran be interested in reprising Captain Chakotay for instance? Things like that.

The Destiny novel trilogy getting adapted for the screen would be an incredible dream come true.

But, in all likelihood, the new Destiny trademark is merely a coincidence as a result of obvious sci-fi naming.

Given that the Picard series is exploring what Picard's fate is, it's not too much of a surprise they'd pick some dramatic synonym for fate as the title. And presumably it's the destiny of more than just him at stake. Surely Picard's return isn't him just mindlessly shoop-de-dooping around the galaxy.

Careful. She usually starts with the ones that accuse her. On an unrelated note... Is that a spot of flour spilled on your shoes? Flour... Just like the flour covering the floors at the mill, where the body was found? I first noticed it when you stood to give the toast, at dinner.

I feel like it's a play for sales, but it would be neat if it were more than that.

And that's why you're the only author where I've ever made a note to revisit some post or another in a year's time so I can figure out what you were talking about. ;)

As much as I'd love to see the events of the Destiny books on-screen I really can't see any writers/producers/bigwigs killing off the Borg for good, they'll always want the option of going back and using them again to be kept open.

When it comes to Destiny, I'd rather just see them use it as part of the backstory of the new show so they can leave it unchanged.

Even if it's just animated. I would love to see the Hirogen siege on the Enterprise.

Is it confirmed that Destiny is going to be the name of the Picard series? Or still speculation?
