Avery Brooks

How is Avery Brooks doing? I understand he's had some health issues. I love DS9 and I hope Brooks can at least do a cameo on Patrick Stewart's new show. In any case, I hope he's in a good way.

He wouldn't even do an interview for What We Left Behind. No way will he show up on another tv show.

I must amend my answer. ISB said at STLV, "A few years ago, Avery called with me an idea to get a movie off the ground." Apparently he would do more DS9 ... under conditions that aren't entirely clear.

According to Ira Steven Behr last week, Brooks has doing well and has his full blessing on the Documentary, even though he chooses not to be in it.

I guess after 20 years of performing the role and ralking about it at conventions and such, he might feel he doesn't have much else to add.

I am just thankful that I was able to meet him and talk with him years ago before he became more reclusive. He is my favorite captain and it was a real treat to see him in person... the man has the most beaming smile I've ever seen. Even more so in real life.

If he ever does decide to go back to conventions, and it is near you, go to one of his panels. Trust me, the man is very intelligent and a joy to listen to.

He did a run of "Death of a Salesman" to much acclaim in Washington, DC a few years ago. Wish they had filmed a performance.

I don't think he has mental health issues, he's just a bit eccentric. Atleast, that's how I always understood it.
Yeah, my thoughts exactly. Though I might add a little pretentious too.

I don't know how many people here are familiar with the UK sketch show "The Fast Show", but when I saw his interview with Shatner on "The Captains", I was couldn't help but think he wouldn't be out of place on one of their "Jazz Club" sketches.

Professor Brooks would be welcome to my eyes and ears in just about any new Trek project he felt comfortable being part of.
