Should there be any DS9 "callbacks" in the new Picard show?

We know the new Picard show takes place 20 years after Nemesis - meaning 2399. This is 24 years after the end of DS9. Obviously many of the DS9 characters would still be alive at that time (barring accidents) but on the other hand, Picard did not personally know any of them other than Worf and O'Brien. Aside from perhaps meeting them, what would be plausible?

My ideas:

Martok: He was Chancellor of the Klingon High Council when we last saw him. While a 24-year rule would be unusually long from what we know of Klingon history, provided Martok stayed alive and robust enough to survive any challenges through personal combat, he should still be in office.

Rom: Was Grand Negus when we last saw him. Considering Zek stayed Negus until he was in his 90s, there seems to be no reason why Rom wouldn't remain in his position, barring some sort of power struggle within the Ferengi Alliance.

? Yates-Sisko: This is an out there idea, but hear me out. By the time of the Picard show, Ben and Kasidy's child will be 23. Presuming they went into Starfleet, they should be a newly-minted ensign. A secondary character with this lineage could be their own person, but would also have an interesting backstory which could be slowly explored.

Bashir: Siddig has matured a lot as an actor, and I would love to see how he would better represent his character.

Only if they matter to the story. Worf or O'Brien could count in that regard if reconnecting with old friends is part of the story. If not, I don't expect to see them (although Worf would also fit in a story involving Klingons - Martok was determined to keep him around so if we see Martok, I assume Worf comes with him, and O'Brien could make sense in an academy series). Unless Picard actually goes to Ferenginar for some reason, I would not expect Rom at all. I'd buy a Cmdr./Cpt. Nog cameo before any kind of role for Rom.

In the end, we just don't know what the story is. But if I had to guess, I'd say it probably won't involve any of this and there probably won't be any DS9 callback.

I doubt we'll see any characters from DS9 but I'd be surprised if the Dominion War isn't referenced at least once. It was a huge deal for the Alpha Quadrant. It even got a mention in the TNG movies and Voyager.

Depending on what kind of series the new show is we might see the after effects of the Cardassian Holocaust or Romulus exploding.

Would love to see references to the characters we know and love. We probably won't see DS9 or Voyager characters appear immediately but in the long run we'll probably see some guest appearances or recurring characters eventually. The longer the show survives, the better the odds get.

It would make me especially happy to see Captain or Commander Nog. And that might actually be not too unlikely to happen. A Ferengi Captain showing up in this show would be kinda like having a Klingon officer in TNG, show the progressive basis of the show by having a former enemy be now among our ranks.

As a big fan of DS9, I'd really love to see some references. They don't necessarily have to incorporate DS9 characters in the main cast of the new show (although I wouldn't mind that either), but it would definitely be great to learn for example how the Dominion developped after having lost the war against the federation. Also some guest appearances by DS9 characters would be very cool. Maybe even some episode, not necessarily already in the first season, but in general, that takes place on DS9 for some reasons? Imagine a fully newly created DS9 station with today's possibilities, it would surely look even more impressing then it already did.

I'd love to see Sisko again (though, does Brooks even act anymore?), but my god imagine the internet meltdown if the prophesized return of Saint Picard was just a backdoor excuse to bring more closure to Sisko and the Prophets.

No, Picard's story has to be about Picard, not about bringing back Sisko.

The problem here is "small quadrant syndrome." Given the size of the federation there should be thousands, if not tens of thousands, of Starfleet vessels. There's no particular reason Captain Nog would run into Picard.

Brooks is never coming back, ever. He wouldn't appear in the upcoming DS9 documentary, and he doesn't go to conventions. He's done with Trek.

The thing that always most excited me about a Trek show following TNG/DS9/VOY in the timeline is -- two of the major powers have been shattered! The destruction of Cardassia and Romulus and all the issues that would go along with that just provides so much to work with. It's the kind of disorder that ideally lends itself to sci-fi metaphors for our current unsettled global moment. So I guess that's my hope for a DS9 callback: if the story involves the larger power landscape of the Trekverse, just take the Dominion War into account.

He was actually in one TNG uniform and if this show is more dark or less Starfleet oriented it means you might need some criminal types in a episode so why not use Quark? If your worried about new fans not knowing who he is that is okay. I doubt he would be used in away that you would need to see all of DS9 to understand what the character is about or what role he would play in that episode.

That's a really good idea. It could be just a single line, it could be ignored by people who never watched DS9 or heard of Bajor. But to people who did watch DS9 it would finish what they started in "Emissary". And it's already established that Picard would be very pleased.

I agree it needs to be accessible but when you are playing with a already established character and universe that opens the door up for some fan service stuff. If your sly even a great deal. I keep hearing about fan service stuff in "Better Call Saul" that I never even noticed. Quark to new fans can just as easy be seen as just a random Ferengi businessman. For me I was thinking more along the lines of a cameo or someone Picard goes to for info from time to time or because he needs something but we only see this happen 2 or 3 times a season. Basically what The Lone Gunmen were on "X-FIles" back when they started being used. You know Quark isn't going to be in all of the episodes and when he does he won't be a major figure in the story but it's still neat to see him pop up from time to time. Maybe gets a good joke in or steals a scene and then he is gone.
