Disney fires James Gunn from "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3"

No, you just need to get over yourself. Those comments were years ago, they were just words, he apologized and made up for it all. Nothing is wrong with others who had a good working relationship standing up for him. There comes a point where bad shouldn't blot out the good, and Gunn made up for his past comments.
He shouldn't have gone down the road he did in the first place. That is what is still keeping him held accountable. However some people pay penance and are forgiven - others, not.

No shit that drugs ruin lives. People who refuse to do anything about their drug problems have serious issues and are a genuine societal problem (though they deserve treatment, not scorn).

Why you're somehow equating a sober man who makes tens of millions of dollars a year, giving most of it to charity, and who has literally paid his debt to society by serving hard time behind bars, to people who have made horrific jokes about terrible things ... again, get the fuck out of here with that shit.

Normally she does this when faulting any liberal on autopilot without the application of critical thinking because she thinks it makes her appear heroic to defend the conservative underdog. On this occasion she seems to have sold herself short and got mixed up, what with RDJ being pretty ambiguous in his politics compared to Gunn's open left wing attitudes.

Eh, disagree. I thought the second was even better than the first, and that it was really ambitious thematically and narratively. I was very excited to see what Gunn would come up with for the third.

It's too bad well probably never find out, though I get from a PR standpoint why Disney fired him. It's a shit situation all around.
I liked #2 better than #1 too, way better.

They're using Gunn's script for #3, though, right?

Lots of things ruin lives. Racism can ruin lives. What’s your point?
Yeah the concern raised over RDJ seems blind to that.

Bautista will honor his contract and not sink his career.

Bautista's career is set, considering the guy made more than enough money to live on for the rest of his life during his original wrestling days, and he was paid roughly $Texas for a four-month return to WWE back in like 2014. He's at the point of his life that he just does things if he feels like it--for example, he offered to return to WWE as recently as a year or two ago, but only if he could work the non-televised house shows; even though it would mean touring constantly, he'd be allowed to have more fun and not deal with the bullshit of television.

I would not be shocked to see him refuse to show up for work, because he doesn't need it.

I don't know these actors politics only their actions. It's interesting to see who and why people defend some and not others.

This is a great compromise. Gunn gets his payoff, he'll definitely have to be listed in the credits now and his script being used.

Someone like Taika will probably direct it.

Disney and Marvel handled this situation perfectly.

Returning worked for Brock Lesner, likely CM Punk soon too. Bautista is arguably the one with the least to lose on the cast and he knows it, which is why he's the one to make the ultimatum

Unlcear at this point. From the links posted in this thread, there's rumors claiming they both are and aren't.

Personally I can't imagine that they will, because otherwise what's the point in firing him? They wouldn't want his name attached at all. And even if they do technically use his script, whoever they hire to direct will inevitably have it rewritten to some degree. We're never going to know what the James Gunn Vol 3 would have been.

Because almost everything anyone does is random and inconsistent depending on gut feelings on each specific event. I think the number of universal truths could be counted on two hands with our fingers. It's not just actors or even anything that has to do with politics.

Sometimes it comes down to who is kind to you. I recall reading how Mel Gibson a man with his own skeletons was supportive of Robert and in turn Robert has spoken up for Mel. We see failings in each other and try to help.

I agree. I think friendship and family or even a chance encounter can influence people in many cases more than any fact could. Also impressions. Granted I don't really know if that is a bad thing. Without the ability to give people the benefit of doubt I don't know how anyone can build any trust with anyone.

Oh Zoom  How about the Guardians cast as examples of actors and Disney execs as example of studio execs. Two different types of reaction.

Creating a great series out of D-Listers isn't enough to make up for some comments he already apologized for years ago?

Meanwhile someone like Bryan Singer likely will have a fine continuing career despite the sexual allegations.

I actually agree with you on the point that the reaction and response is not even-handed. It doesn't make his (Gunn's) past go away but others are eventually forgiven. That happens in real life for us nobodies too. I was watching Custom's Control the other night and some guy was travelling with his grown up sons. He had in his youth been charged with two Drink Driving offences. It gave him a criminal record and he wasn't allowed to board the plane!

Why this constant fallback on 'other people are eventually forgiven' as if Gunn won't ALSO be forgiven? Downey, Gibson, etc, are not some proof of societal hypocrisy. They're proof that Gunn will be totally fine and his career will move on. As is apparently ALREADY happening, since he's on the wishlist of multiple different studios...
