2019 Releases

I'd rather use common sense. A new series post Nemesis will contradict the novels and the current TrekLit narrative will end, that's pretty much a foregone conclusion, no matter what CBS licensing tells individual writers right now.
We don't know this for certain, it's likely, but there's a pretty big time gap so there's a chance the references could be vague enough that the books could adjust to fit it. We don't know enough about it to say anything for certain at this point, hell, we don't even know for sure if it's set in the Prime Universe, it could be set in the MU or some other alternate universe.
It's trade paperback.

From a blog post by Dayton (emphasis mine):

"At present, there only seems to be a lonely Amazon link for the physical print/trade paperback edition,[...]"

Wow, I didn't expect that. I'm a little bit disappointed they'll be more expensive, but it shouldn't be enough to change my buying habits. I wonder this means for the 12 books a year schedule? That was usually just the mass market paperbacks.

I’m still assuming the once a month schedule will resume in March. The January Discovery novel being a special ‘rush job.’

Interestingly, they are all labelled as "Paperback" - i.e. trade paperback - as opposed to MMPB, which Amazon identifies separately (see Architects of Infinity for comparison). Either this is an error on Amazon's part, or the new contract sees Pocket pivoting entirely to TPBs...

That's rather disappointing, since it will pretty much double the cost of each book. :( A couple of trades per year isn't too bad, but every single one? That's going to put a bit of a crimp in the monthly budget. I've already had to give up all other books that aren't Star Trek, and recently have given up the Trek art and behind-the-scenes books to just focus on the novels. What's next? :(

I have to confess, if all the books are going to be TPBs now, then I kind of hope that they cut down the number we get a year. 12 MMPBs a year is bad enough, but taking that up to TPBs is even more painful.

Another reason I'm glad there is a huge backlog of Trek books I haven't read. There's probably more than I have left in this lifetime.

If I had to make that choice, I'd give up on Star Trek. No way I would skip something like 'The Lost Scenes'.

I've been putting some thought into that. I imagine we'll likely still get twelve novels a year*, though for now on Disco novels will be included as part of "the twelve" as opposed to being a separate release in addition to "the twelve" like Desperate Hours was. This does mean we'll get less books devoted to the other series from now on, as they'll have to keep room open for Disco, which I suspect is going to get a minimum of three novels a year.

All this is personal speculation based on nothing substantive and should be treated accordingly.

*I know we're already getting less than twelve novels this year, with February not having a release.

It's the way the industry is going. People who want inexpensive books have mostly switched to e-books. Particularly in SF and fantasy, where e-books and audiobooks have beeen growing in popularity while print sales have been declining. So for print publishing to remain viable, it needs a higher price point. Which means that MMPBs are probably a dying breed.

I know trade paperbacks are more expensive but I'm glad the print will be bigger and easier to read in the new upcoming Star Trek books.

I personally switched over to e-books for my Treklit a few years back. It makes it a lot easier to read Treklit on the sly when I'm supposed to be working.

As for the new Picard series, I'd love it if it treats the Litverse as canon but I'll be fine if it doesn't. The quality of Treklit over the past few years has been stellar and as long as that level of quality is maintained, I'll keep reading and enjoying them no matter how the new series affects things.

With the Discovery novels I wish they would get better covers. The promo art covers are boring, especially for a book coming 2 years after the debut of the series.

As I understand it, the covers are designed by CBS and Pocket/Gallery have no say in the matter.
