But, how is the new Trek series with Picard going to change the books? Does this mean the 24th century books have to start over?
Honestly, I think the latest three are already a huuuge improvement over the abysmal design that was Desperate Times. With the Discovery novels I wish they would get better covers. The promo art covers are boring, especially for a book coming 2 years after the debut of the series.
We don't know yet and we probably won't know for the near future as the series is in very early development stages. I'm rather sure that we'll have at least a year or two until we know for certain how strongly the show differs from the books and then the people at Pocket Books and CBS will decide how to deal with it, augment continuity, start over, go back to tie-ins. And then eventually we will know too. But, how is the new Trek series with Picard going to change the books? Does this mean the 24th century books have to start over?
Where do you get this?As I understand it, the covers are designed by CBS and Pocket/Gallery have no say in the matter.

“Cover art by CBS Studios”
I'm actually betting on the time gap protecting the current litverse continuity. We don't know this for certain, it's likely, but there's a pretty big time gap so there's a chance the references could be vague enough that the books could adjust to fit it.
"I love vacationing at the original, never destroyed, Therin Park."
That just means rather than commissioning an artist to make new artwork they are using the CBS stock promo photos for the Disco covers so far (and why wouldn't they, while Disco is new character recognition is enough to get people interested). The actual design will still be by Simon and Schuster, but all they're doing is wacking the title over a photo.
Does Therin Park have something to do with you, Ian?
That could have been me; I definitely remember that facebook post.Didn't someone here cite a CrossCult facebook post, that they wanted to do new covers for the Discovery novels (as they often do for so-so US covers), but weren't allowed to?
Yeah, I like how there's a theme going on with main character in the foreground, cool space in the background and hope that they can keep that up until we got through all main characters. Come to think of it, I'd be really interested in an Ash Tyler novel.I did like the Fear Itself cover-- I think just having an interesting background did a lot for the publicity photos.
Who's left after Tilly? Ash, as you say. (Maybe the novels could do for him something like what they did for Lorca.) Stamets, though the Star Trek: Discovery Annual filled in some of his past already. I guess Pike is a main character now, so they could do him, too.Yeah, I like how there's a theme going on with main character in the foreground, cool space in the background and hope that they can keep that up until we got through all main characters. I think that's about it, unless we take potential season 2 characters into account. A Stamets novel set after the start of the war might be interesting though.Who's left after Tilly? Ash, as you say. Hm, it does seem like there's some space for a novel or novels chronicling the first six months of the war, on the Discovery or elsewhere.I think that's about it, unless we take potential season 2 characters into account. A Stamets novel set after the start of the war might be interesting though.
Nah, I don't think that needs to happen, since we already have Burning Dreams.I guess Pike is a main character now, so they could do him, too.
I'd love to read that.Hm, it does seem like there's some space for a novel or novels chronicling the first six months of the war, on the Discovery or elsewhere.
Better go ahead and just add me to this List as well! - Your unique perspective and talents have been missed these past 10 years.By the way, it means a great deal that so many people have expressed a desire for me to be writing Trek fiction again, especially given that my last Trek novel came out almost a decade ago. Thank you guys.
