Not overrated. Just someone who works better as a small independent director on smaller products. I think he has even said this when explaining why he didn't do "Green Hornet."

He is also a star on the rise. Why would he want to get in the middle of this mess? Also why not just let him do the next Thor movie?
Jason
If the project is something interesting to him, why wouldn't he? His career's not going to be ruined because he replaced the precious Gunn.
And Marvel has never done a fourth solo for any character so far. We have no idea if there will be a next Thor movie.
Ruined might be to strong but if the movie fails he will be blamed just like Joss Whedon was for "Justice League" and Ron Howard for "Solo." I think we will see a 4th Thor movie. I know we haven't seen that before techincally but at this point it feels like we have had 5 or 6 Iron Man movies despite only 3 offical ones. The last Thor movies was the best and I don't see them stopping especially if they plan on doing a individual movie with the Valkerie character I think she was called. Might want to use her again in another Thor before giving her a movie of her own.

I wonder if the whole cosmic angle for phase 4 is out now. Gunn I think was the key reason they even thought about going that way and who knows if they still will. Maybe phase 4 will be all about X-Men instead as they new goal.

IDK where you get the idea that somehow James Gunn was a big deal in the MCU. He was involved in 2 GotG films and directed the GotG segments in Avengers 3 and Avengers 4(Which is in the can). So, that's a total of 3 films of the 20 MCU films released to date.I wonder if the whole cosmic angle for phase 4 is out now. You sound like those claiming the MCU was 'dead' in 2009 when Jon Favreau passed on directing Iron Man 2.
James Gunn being fired by Disney will have little to no impact on the plans Disney has for the MCU other than finding another director to helm GotG III (and no, the cast and crew won't boycott or 'opt out' because James Gunn is no longer involved.)
Feige himself stated in an interview that Gunn was going to be sorta the pointman for the cosmic angle of phase 4.
Which is just another position in which he'll be replaced. Whedon oversaw the entire MCU from Avengers to AoU. That didn't mean he was irreplaceable or that they had to change all the plans he helped create because he wasn't around anymore. That's not how this works.
Funny. Can't remember me saying he was irreplaceble.... Just that he was a big deal in the MCU, because Feige had big plans for him. Just like how Whedon was a big deal for a while. And yes, just like Whedon, and the Russo brothers after Avengers 4 and now Gunn, they are replaceble.
Noname Given mentioned that he didn't get how people thought Gunn was a big deal. Well, Feige's comments a few weeks ago make it clear why. And no, he isn't anymore.
I don't know. I think he has only done 2 movies they were really bad. One was "Cop Out" and the other was "Jersey Girl." I think his movies though work mostly as hangout type of movies and people just like listening to the characters talk more than any kind of strong story narrative. Though I did like "Red State" and "Tusks" more than many. God help me I even liked "Yoga Hosers." Of course I think his main attraction is people just like him as a person. I think he was the first or one of the first with a podcast and people like listening to him on a stage or in a interview. He really milked his fandom to some good success. His Superman story is something I think ever nerd is familiar with.

Personally, I would love it if they did something different tonally with GOTG3, rather the same thing again.
We can split hairs over statements if you want, but the context of this discussion was about Jayson's ridiculously over the top claims about how Gunn leaving means Marvel will completely change all their plans. That's what we were talking about before you got here, so that's the context in which I read your post.
You are in a minority regarding his movies. Seriously: Yoga Hosers?
Regardless if the personal appeal he has among fandom, that doesn’t make him qualified to take on a big budget action movie.

The whole cosmic angle is pure fan speculation at this point with nothing coming from Marvel's mouth. There is absolutely nothing to Gunn doing thatI wonder if the whole cosmic angle for phase 4 is out now. Gunn I think was the key reason they even thought about going that way and who knows if they still will. Maybe phase 4 will be all about X-Men instead as they new goal.
