Anson Mount as Pike SAVES This Show! Wow.

Still doesn’t contradict what I said.

And since I own three seasons of it on DVD, I don’t think I need any RT scores to form my opinions.

Cool story dude.

Reading the audience reviews on RT will show you that there is a strong appreciation for Anson's talent based on Hell on Wheels.

The point is that, including Marynators post describing manly content, we’ve basically described most of Pikes screentime in The Cage.

- Bitching about female officers and attempting to put No.1 in her place.
- Whaling on other sweaty men with his shirt off.

Lol. Now you're just making up nonsense. Pike never even did that in The Cage.

Also: it’s not a gay ‘joke.’ And your latter separating of ‘gay’ from ‘strong masculine’ content, somewhat reaffirms my point about straight men being oblivious to homerotic content in ‘their’ fiction.

It was obviously intended by you as a joke, because Pike never did that in The Cage. The closest was when he fought the alien on Rigel with weapons to protect damsel in distress Vina from getting assaulted.

I have no idea what you're talking about with regards to 'homoerotic' lol. You're off on a weird tangent.

You think they would have learned their lesson from Sisko.

Actually, it's kind of effed up that the only two black leads were the ones who didn't get to be captain from day one. Although I'm sure it's just a bad coincidence.

Does it really matter? Sisko being a 'Commander' never undermined his authority. It was just semantics. He was the man in charge.

Avery Brooks had a fantastic, strong leadership presence onscreen. Even in the early days.

I'm not surprised Worf was intimidated by Sisko.

Well now, there's a waste of life.

Says the premium member on a Trek message board. Pot calling Kettle black.

And there's another.

Do you understand what a self-selected population is, and why this kind of anecdote is worthless as support of an assertion
It's more valid than basing everyone on the opinion of one individual. It's always good to see multiple collected opinions from various audience members.

That shirt gets torn dude. The start of a wonderful Star Trek tradition.

And Pike totally did both of those things. With a side order of patronising Vena, and whatever the fuck that was with the ensign.

And that ladies and gentlemen, is a joke.

Nope. Saru has been a wimp for most of the season. Ash has been a victim for most of the season. Staments is a nerdy beta male. Isaacs really played the only one with an alpha leadership presence and agency, on a consistent basis. Made him stand out, and it was a good dynamic with the others.

Looking forward to that with Pike.

You know, men have a high heart attack and suicide rate due to people (and society in general) considering them lesser for expressing basic human emotions.

Why do you hate men?

It didn't get torn in the slightest. Go re-watch the scene.

I get it. You made an inappropriate joke that undermines your POV, and now you're trying to save face.

It's okay. You are forgiven.

Well you're talking nonsense and making things up. Now you're off on a completely unrelated tangent.

I don’t know.

I don’t think they give you your queer licence until you can point out the homoerotism in Star Trek completely off the cuff. I’m sure I’m fine.

Or maybe it was He-Man. It’s been too long. Shit.

That the supposed paragon ‘manly’ characters and content is also wank fodder for gay people and straight women? And ergo, is also theirs?

Nah, sounds about right.

Why is that a negative?

You'll find those fringe group extremists in any fanbase. Shippers are in all genres.

Now that’s begging the question.

What made you think I see wank fodder as a negative? I’m claiming equal rights to the wank fodder. That’s my toy, and gay men’s toys, and everyone’s toys.

It represents what certain show runners consider our desires. And therefore, is not ‘manly.’

Also: those dang ‘extremist’ shippers. Detonating suicide vests at cons whilst screaming about Chekov and Kyle’s unending love.

From your POV perhaps.

I'm not denying your right to write gay shipper fanfiction.

Every genre and franchise will have certain fans that will perceive male (and female) characters in that light.

It's fine.

Oh, I’m so glad they have your permission. I’m sure it means a lot.

But if my opinion is that straight women and gay people find that shit hot, what’s your alternative POV? That they...don’t?

That conversation took a detour straight to the depths of hell.

Back on topic, really looking forward to Captain Pike. It seems they put a lot of effort into casting Spock. If Spock is joining the Discovery crew as well, Pike may be Captain for the long haul. Spock and Pike served together for 11 yrs.
