Anson Mount as Pike SAVES This Show! Wow.

But for me, the overall effect he usually achieved in his scenes (though some were better than others) was more 'daytime soap opera'. Obviously none of this was helped by the fact that his story literally went nowhere.
FWIW I agree that Latif was one of the stronger actors in S1, especially toward the end. That said, I still don't think he and SM-G had an iota of chemistry. (And I also agree that his whole arc was badly written and pointless.)

I loved Ash's story, I feel it's really neat how he was Voq but when discovered, he survived and Voq was purged out, I'm very glad Ash won that battle. I've seen soap operas and I don't see any similarity, his acting was phenomenal, and I felt a lot of passion between him and Michael. Thank you so kindly for reminding me she hadn't been in love before, I thought there was something about that. She was someone who couldn't let another person in, but she and Ash are both so damaged I found it really sweet how they connected, and definitely better than any of those romances or say Deep Space Nine or Voyager. And his emotions when Michael was ending things with him, I could totally feel my heart breaking for him, his story was so tragic. He's dealing with what he did as Voq, nearly killing the woman he's in love with and he did kill Dr Culber, I'm really looking forward to seeing where things go for him next season.

I'll agree with the premise there... if there's any reason those two characters connected, it's because they were both damaged, struggling to find a sense of self that wasn't riddled with guilt. But I see that as the makings of an unhealthy and dysfunctional relationship, not a sweet one.

I agree with that too... I definitely felt for him in those scenes. Burnham came across as needlessly callous and unforgiving (especially in light of the extraordinary level of forgiveness she extended to Mirror Georgiou), which just contributed to my dissatisfaction with her own character arc.

I view more their damage as breaking down their barriers with each other, both Michael and Ash are incredibly strong people (I mean, Ash won his personality back from Voq!), but both are very guarded, but together they sense a similarity in each other and could open up their trust. He's also really passionate which she really needs from her partner, you know what I mean?

I forgive Michael for her feelings, I believe she understands Ash was possessed by Voq, but she can't completely let go of her emotions when she sees him, because literally it was his face and his eyes she saw when he was trying to take her life, so while she doesn't want to see him punished, she can't be with him right now because she loves him deeply but also has other feelings she needs time to deal with. I'm hoping she and Ash will still have future together.

I feel her relationship with Mirror Phillipa is complicated, and she feels guilt because she feels responsible for her captain's death, right? She knows she's not her Phillipa, but on some level she's feeling a duty to save this one's life because she couldn't save her own, but she doesn't trust her either because she knows what it is, I love those nuances to her emotions! :)
