News Spock has already been cast

I'm waiting for it to be revealed as a bait and switch at some point. As in, they DID cast Spock, but it's a young Spock, not adult Spock. Most likely the same relative age as young Michael. I think the writers will examine their relationship in flash-back form in order to inform Michael's, and Sarek's current feelings about Spock and their search mission.

I really hope that my suspicions are wrong in terms of this being the only Spock we will see this season. Only because I can imagine the kind of angry backlash that might cause if Kurtzman did in fact allow fans to make the wrong assumptions just to be coy.

Do ya think maybe it's actually possible that the Blue Shirt on the right IS (the new) Spock?!?

Pretty sure it's Lt. Connolly that beamed together with Pike to Discovery.

The scene above is from from first episode of season 2 (see clapperboard). Spock is definitely not on-board Enterprise at that time.

If we are very, very lucky, it will be Zachary Quinto.
well they used the word “new” so probably not.

my first thought was they’re being cute and quinto will show up for a brief cameo, after all they previously said they would not recast spock because they couldn’t picture anybody but nimoy or quinto in the role.

but i’m fairly convinced this is all prelude to a pike-enterprise spinoff and they’d need a new spock for that...

I bet there will be a good amount of that with Michael looking back, but I really hope it won't just be some "flashback" young Spock. It is strange that they would hold back from a huge Comic Con reveal.

Jonathan Frakes said a few months ago that his first episode this season (Episode 2 IIRC) will feature a Young Spock.

I really can't imagine a new adult Spock. Quinto just owns that role to my mind, just like Leonard Nimoy did before. The only way I can see that working is if it is indeed a flashback to young Spock. That will be very jarring for me to watch if they did recast the adult Spock. Unless by some miracle they get someone who can pull it off looks and talent wise and I just can't imagine that. It's not impossible, but very very unlikely I think.

"Young" is a relative term. The last time we saw Nimoy as Spock, he was 80+ years old. A 25 or 30 year old actor would be "young" from that perspective.

Flashback-10yo-Spock, and they reuse some stuff from the Roddenberry-Vault to make a holocom at the end of the story arc.

I really hate being negative about new trek, as I am so happy we have some, but I don't like how every franchise now seems to be a bit of a slave to their pop culture reference points. First another show looking back instead of forward, then the Enterprise, now Spock. I of course loved seeing the Enterprise done so well (I liked the subtle changes) and I'm sure the new Spock actor will do a fine job, but this kind of stuff makes a universe seem smaller instead of bigger. Hopefully he will be well used and serve an original worthy story.

Well, Abrams hit it out of the park with Quinto and Kurtzman was involved in that movie. So the guy's got some successful history.

Oh, and Pike's collar looks great in that elevator pic. :)

I'm pretty sure we're only going to see Spock as a child and that this is what Kurtzman was referring to, but there's a chance I could be wrong.
