I ordered this as soon as it was available, started in it yesterday, finished it today! I think I screwed up with the backend somewhere though, the gadgets don't work quit right - seat ejector still shoot my batman minifigure pretty far though!

Any one else got it/getting it/having issues with some mechanisms?

There is no chance in hell I'd ever buy that set. It barely looks like the real life car and the price is one of the worst in the history of the LEGO brand.

That said the chair seat ejector is amazing.

Are you trying to convince yourself of that lie or do you work for LEGO.

The London Bus 10258 cost $10USD less and has 400 more pieces.
The Beetle 10252 has 125 less pieces and cost $50USD (A THIRD!) less.
Ferrari F40 10248 has 132 less pieces and AGAIN $50USD (A third) less.
Mini Cooper 10242 has 213 less pieces and oh look once again $50USD less!

The James Bond name on the box doesn't equal the extra $50 price tag.

It's cool... but if I was going to get into Lego, I would want everything I get to be in minifig scale.

And it costs too much, anyway.

Lying to myself? No, Wired magazine did a couple articles the math for average prices for all lego. I, you know, did the research. Average price for all Lego is $0.104 USD/piece. This set is $.12/piece, an increase of $0.016/piece from the charge, which is in line with other premium sets.

You want expensive Lego? Try the star wars character sets, they're $O.288/piece

The sets cited by @bigdaddy are also premium sets, in fact part of the exact same "Creator Expert" series as this new DB5.

This is where the word average comes in. Some are lower, some are higher. This set is $0.12 per piece. More than some less than others. In line with premium sets. As the example I gave, Star Wars set, licensed from another multi billion franchise, hit $.288/piece. I suspect it costs slightly less to license a London bus than a James Bond DB5.

Saying the set costs too much in general, you don't want to spend $150 on a Lego set, as you did, is valid. Saying it costs too much for Lego, when it's a $.14 per piece premium vs regular Lego pieces and less than half of some other licensed sets, and accusing anyone of saying otherwise is lying to themselves, is not.

Thank you. LEGO fans will just come up with any excuse to reason their purchase.

Some of us are doing the average price for The Creator Car Series for which this is a part of. If you do it for all LEGO that is just ridiculous as there are 900 sets. City and Star wars sets cost more because LEGO can. City sets have large pieces and both have minifigures. You always get less parts if there are more minifigures. This is has none and the average for the others in this series are 8.6 cents per piece in the Beetle and 8.3 for the London bus. So the average is in the 8.5 range. It's 11.6 cents for this car, it's not cheap, it's not average. Also in the USA all non-exclusive sets are 20% all the time, thus changing what 'average' is even more.

But because people will make excuses, next year's Creator car will be $180 for 1300 pieces and just change what the 'average' is.

Jang is the number one LEGO reviewer and he's usually friendlier to LEGO, until they sued him, but go to the 13th minute.

But I'm done trying to convince people of facts.

On the other hand, when it comes to a creative product with intangible aesthetic value, I wonder if it's a little too nit-picky to focus on quantifying by price per piece.

This is now the second time you've attributed characteristics and motives to me with no foundation.

Since puberty I've bought 4 Lego sets - 4 in 20+ years. Each because they were a set that was of an object I loved and at a price around or lower than that of the average price per piece of lego. I'm hardly a hardcore collecting out of my way to truck myself into believing in the all great and powerful Lego Lords. Oh, and I also have some Kubros/megablocks Trek sets that were $4 each, and a couple brickheadz that were on clearance for a similar price. But I wouldn't buy Brickheadz again, compared to the Kubros designs they suck. Too bad Kubros are done.

I'd say it's a whole lot more disengenious to do what you do, cherry picking specific sets and crying "This proves this is a rip off!" than to look at the average price of what are the same pieces made by the same company in the same factories to the same quality control standards and comparing it to that.
