First official look at the new sonic screw driver

I like the new trailer. It's exciting, and it looks like this season might be lighter than some of the previous years.

Also, I think Jodie's smile is infectious and I can't wait to see more of it. :)

I'm so fucking pumped for this. Between Classic Who, Big Finish Who and NuWho I've yet to meet a Doctor I haven't liked. I can't wait to meet Jodie's.

And could we, just for a second, bask in how lucky Who fandom has been? Ignoring the '96 TV movie, there hasn't been a bad Who showrunner since Eric Saward resigned in 1986. Be it tail end Classic Who (Andrew Cartmel), Big Finish (Gary Russell/Nicholas Briggs & Alan Barnes/David Richardson & Alan Barnes/David Richardson & Guy Adams) or NuWho (Davies and Moffat) the series has been in great hands. And that's just the series proper. Never mind the spin-offs.

Oh, and I love the tagline for the season: "The Universe is Calling".

I just think it adds already to the fun I've seen in these two very brief but appetite whetting clips.

Hell, yes! Jodie's smile and joy is so infectious.

"So if I asked really, really nicely, would you be my new best friends?"

In a heartbeat! Or should that be in a double-heartbeat? :D

Having followed the doctor for 12 years you'd have to ask

-Will I be left on a parallel earth or stuck in the 1920's or have my memories wiped or be possessed by an alien and have to shave my head( Peri)?

Risk is our business.

Oops, wrong universe.

"No, you have girly bits, ew!"
-Self-proclaimed True Fans :p
"Okay, your loss. Bye!"

I see a pattern forming. I think some crystal design is in play. Perhaps the doctor takes a piece of Tardis crystal to make a new screw driver?

It wouldn't be the exact same one but it would make a nice reference.

Yeah, I don’t know. I don’t want to be all negative, but I can’t see the Doctor working with a Kirklees accent. That’s not even South Yorkshire!

I know some aren’t bothered if she talks Skelmers or Heckmondwyke, but to me it’s an another opportunity for a proper interesting Doctor wasted. Chibnel must go!

Well, it appears that "artifact" in the leaked clip (where Whittaker is wearing welding goggles) is the new sonic after all. Here's a large image of it (more given the "crisp, circular array" of slots, possibly a prototype of the expected toy).

That's the first truly "alien" sonic design and given they seem to reflect the TARDIS a bit in NuWho, will be interesting to see if that holds up - it would actually be the sort of "bio-coral" design you might have expected from Nine/Ten's TARDIS...

My first thought looking at that picture is Doctor Who screwdriver meets Discovery Klingon armor. :rommie:

I'm not usually a fan of the sonic screwdriver (and that was before it became a magic wand), but I do like the alien-looking design for this version. Perhaps that new design will inform it's usage in series 11 and it'll be more limited than it has been recent years.

It would be very interesting to see a crystal tardis with metal structures/beams wrapped around or containing the exposed Tardis interior intact.

Sort of like glowing lava peeking through metal beams
