One could imagine that he wasn't born there, but moved there at some point in his life and stayed long enough to be considered "from there".Mr. Hengist is from Rigel IV. Lots of people are. It's not a crime.

Nope. Can't develop everyone in a 15 episode season, and they were nothing but glorified extras.
Westworld did a great job of developing multiple characters and their motivations in the ten episode first season.
I make this comment for the purpose of debate only and not to slag off DSC - but I think Westworld did a better job in this regard. And DSC did a nice job of the same. Just not the background extras who happened to have names and make up.

Agreed, but Westworld committed the time, nearly 15 mins more per episode. I wish DSC would do the same.
I think WW had the story figured out further in advance too. They seemed to know what they were going to do and worked much harder to keep the audience guessing right up until the end. I think many would agree that DSC had some story issues - regardless of how people feel about the show overall, the story seems to be a common complaint. It really did. At least from my perspective, they didn't waste a minute of time messing around.
Fair point. I agree with you there - maybe the resolution of the Klingon war wouldn’t have seemed so rushed. I would also have preferred a smaller, cleverer solution - or a standoff - something like the Cuban missile crisis but in space. I know that historical event was trying to avert a war (and mercifully did) but something like that in DSC where our heroes use diplomacy in trying to avert the Klingons using a death ray or something would have been nice.Agreed, but Westworld committed the time, nearly 15 mins more per episode. On the episode that ran 37 minutes, they should've shot a Meanwhile In the Prime Universe sequence with Captain Killy. Missed opportunity.

^ which is what they tried to do - but it was crammed in to the last, what? Ten minutes of the episode (if that?) but we had plenty of time to see Georgiou get jiggy with the Orion slave girls and guy. Giggety.
Maybe the writers will have more time and freedom to dedicate themselves to more complex storytelling in s2. Maybe this saurian will be the key to not reigniting the war with the Klingons and he will unwittingly draw the attention of the as yet unseen organians...
This ^If you think about it...15 mins more per DSC episode is 225 more mins over the course of the entire season. That's the equivalent of 3.75 additional episodes if they are an hour long, and frigging 5 additional episodes at the 45 min average they were running in S1.
That's a LOT of space to flesh out details and make the stories and characters more intelligent.

They all look like bald middle age bureaucrats. That's just canon. One could imagine that he wasn't born there, but moved there at some point in his life and stayed long enough to be considered "from there".
I want to see caitian!Regarding the Saurian - is it preferable for Star Trek to update established races, e.g. Klingons, romulans, andorians, saurians, etc.
Or to invent new races:
Bolians, ferengi, suliban, denobulans, etc.
I’ll be honest I’m not excited about the new saurian - I’d actually have preferred a denobulan - just to contradict their total lack of visibility everywhere else - but I hope that they do something interesting with this character.
From what I've seen, they're about the same when it comes to color. It's just in different spots.I didn't think the Enterprise could be more colourful than it was in TOS! But here we are. I'm totally looking forward to this season!
