Villains you'd prefer not to see again

Not sure if this has been discussed before but I was wondering what people's thoughts were on villains with whom they don't want to see again. For me it's the Daleks and the Cybermen. They have both been so overdone that I just sort of nod off when they appear for the umpteenth time. I know there's some kind of agreement with Terry Nation's estate so we'll likely get the Daleks again but it would be GREAT to get a season without either villain.

I've recently been watching all the Tom Baker years again and one thing I've noticed is how little there was of the Daleks and the Cybermen with Baker. Maybe that's part of the reason he's still my favorite doctor. How was the show able to do this with Tom? I wish we could get that now too.

Well, I'm fine with not seeing the Daleks for a few years. Moffat pretty much took out every menace RTD has re-installed in them (though he did approve of Daleks in Manhattan...), and I like Into Dalek.

The Cybermen, as they've reached a peak just now, and it might dillute their effect.

I want to say the Weeping Angels, but I wouldn't be so sure afterwards.

I'd prefer to never see a Zygon again. I mean, having one in the background of an alien filled episode or something as a cameo would be fine, but I never want a Zygon focused episode ever again.

While I didn't dislike the Zygons nearly as much as kirk, I do think they shouldn't bring them back for a while.

Focus on new monsters, Capaldi barely had any, if at all.

The Master. IMO, "The Doctor Falls" was a perfect conclusion for the character and I'd rather they not tarnish it with any further appearances that backslide her back into villainy. If they absolutely had to bring him back, I'd prefer it be at an earlier point in his timeline, such as showing us what John Simm was up to between the events of "The End of Time" and "World Enough & Time."

I would never say never regarding the Daleks or Cybermen but I would argue that they shouldn't come back unless you actually have something new or interesting to say about them. Or just want to bring them back for a quick fanservice cameo like in "A Good Man Goes to War" or "The Pilot." Probably best to lump the Weeping Angels & the Silence into that category as well.

Moffat never used the Daleks particularly well but I'd also argue that they were very much a 1-trick pony under RTD. They were fantastic in "Dalek," "Bad Wolf," & "The Parting of the Ways." "Doomsday" finally gave us the Dalek/Cybermen showdown we'd been waiting for since the late 1960s. "Daleks in Manhattan"/"Evolution of the Daleks" had some good parts but was also really messy in other parts (like most of Season 3, really). The rest was just more of the same.

Add me to the growing and never ending chorus calling for a long break from the Daleks. I was tired of them a decade ago, so imagine how I feel now? Mind you, Moffat has used them less than Davies, but still frequently enough that I'm so very sick and tired of them.

I would also like to see less daleks, but I didn't bring that up in my first post because I don't think its a very realistic hope, to be honest.

At the time, Terry Nation was being a real bitch about the Daleks, and BBC weren't willing to play ball. And although the story that there's a deal between the Nation Estate and BBC these days requiring annual Dalek appearances is false, there is someone at BBC who is insisting the show use the Daleks every year, given how often they get pointless cameos for no real reason other than to meet quota. Definitely expect to see Daleks this year, as it is the first year for a new Doctor, with the added publicity of it being the first year for the first female Doctor.

The only reason we've had as much Cybermen as we have is because Moffat is a huge fan of the Cybermen. With him gone, they may end up making fewer appearances.

I think there should be one Dalek and one Cyberman story per Doctor. As for the rest? Personally, I would like to see them come up with new villains/monsters/creatures. No Zygons or Weeping Angels. No Rani or Valyard. No Macra or Silurians. MAYBE a return engagement from Toby Jones' Dream Lord.

"World Enough and Time"/"The Doctor Falls" is far better than Earthshock. :p

Actually, you have a point. I forgot about that for some reason, even though I really like that two parter. I'd put Earthshock over basically any other NuWho Cybermen episode (especially the 10th Doctor one with the alternate universe Cybermen, Neil Gaiman's worst writing job ever from the 11th Doctor's era, and the end of Series 8), but I mostly used it specifically as a bit of a joke, since its one of the most famous oldWho Cybermen stories. Actually, Attack of the Cybermen is my favorite Cybermen story, followed by that 12th Doctor 2 parter, then Earthshock, Tomb of the Cybermen and Revenge of the Cybermen.

I agree with most of that. All of the new series Cybermen stories with Davies were complete garbage, and while I don't think "Nightmare in Silver" is that bad (I enjoyed it considerably more the second time around), I agree Earthshock is better. Honestly, out of the classic series stories, I only like the Hartnell and Troughton serials.

Those farting green aliens that wore the human skin suits. Wore out their welcome very quickly.
A-fucking-men.

The alt-universe Cybermen have never really worked. Maybe they need to back to the Mondosian/Telosian cybermen. Mention has been made of the cyberwars of the 25th century but it's something that's never really been explored on screen. Don't see why the BBC couldn't licence some of the Big Finish stories such as Spare Parts (cyber-origins story) or Sword of Orion (cyber-wars possible the ones mentioned in the Revenge of the Cybermen) or maybe something out of The Cybermen audios (Earth under cyber-rule).

The Daleks since they’re always crap on TV. Keep them for audio. Same for the Cybermen.
Probably most of the Moffat “gimmick” aliens. They work fine to start off with but become tedious the more they’re used.

They did, all Cybermen from A Good Man Goes to War onwards have been "original universe" Cybermen. True, they initially resemble the Cybus Industries ones from Pete's World, you can tell the difference by the lack of the C on the chest.
