What's your favorite adult beverage?

Oh VERY good call on that.. I too, fall into that category. My personal favorite is the Laphroaig quarter cask, but damn, the Talisker is particularly delicious Even though it's from Skye and not Islay). I love the hint of salty sea air it presents.
As far as cocktails go, I love me a good Moscow mule, with real ginger brew and fresh lime.

Ah, Islay. Island of 3000 people...8 distilleries. It is what my afterlife would look like if I am a good Leviathan.
As a fellow fan of Laphroaig, I really suggest the Ardbeg 10. The lesser known Bunnahabhain 12 is also...epic. If you can find a bottle of Port Askaig 19...it'll run $200 but take you a year to drink: each sip lasts for 20 brilliant minutes.
The Ardbeg 10.. my old friend.. open the bottle and the smoke detector goes off.. 
the Bunnahabhain 12 was the first bottle of whisky I ever bought.. of the Laphroaig's I know the quarter cask is easily the best, their normal ones are a tad heavy handed, the quarter cask is much more elegant, I only drink these in winter, after you come in having gone through rotten weather, the rest of the time I drink other whisky's.
One of the best I ever had the honour to sample was a 25 year old AnCnoc.
The Aberlour A'Bunadh is still my favorite when it comes to normal obtainable whisky.
My brother is a lucky one, he obtained the whole Higland Park Valhalla collection which he still has unopened and in the original boxes, we did get to taste Thor and Freya at some stage though.

You guys are killing me.. Our local "Total Wine" shop puts on a scotch class once a quarter, with an actual Scotsman leading the discussion. We usually sample 8-10 different brands, ranging from $25 to $150 (or so).. He never tells us the price until the end.. It's been fun enjoying all the different varieties and getting a good lesson in Scottish scotch making history. I'm going to see if they have the 10 and 12 you both are talking about.. I can save my nickles and plunk down $200 if I set my mind to it. Cheers!

Haven't had a drop of alcohol in about five years and it was about five years previous to that that I had any, but my favorite drink when I did drink socially was Pineapple Malibus.
I've always pretty much detested beer. Sam Adams' Summer Ale is about the only beer I can (somewhat) stomach. Before I was introduced to that I had to slam a few MGDs before being able to sip on the next few.

I find that the weather influences the drink. In the depths of winter a solid red to wash down a hearty casserole is essential, and preferably one that was cooked in the same wine.
Rekorderlig used to do a spiced winter cider that was best drank hot, it tasted like ubbabubba soda. Haven’t seen it for years. M&S did a mulled white wine, it wasn’t sickly like the red ones can be. They also did or do a chocolate ruby port that we’d save till Xmas eve. Not seen those in years, Christmas is also all about the Baileys Irish Cream and sloe gin
When it’s like this though, hot, a chilled white or pink wine with a lighter meal, like smoked fishy salad, and then the red wine. Or frozen cocktails from the boozy squishy machine. Or bottles of American lager, like Sol, or Brahma are inoffensively quaffable.

Favorite mixed drink: Tanqueray and tonic, with second place to any other brand of gin, including Beefeater.
Favorite beer: Moosehead. Second place to Sam Adams Summer Ale. If neither of those are available, I'll ask for a lager. And none of your flavored microbrews! Beer should taste like beer, dammit!

I read an article that stated that the "flavor" of Diet Coke is actually that of New Coke from 1985.
Edit: Anyway, in response to the O.P., I rarely drink, but when I do, I like anything sour like a Hard Lime or an amaretto sour.
If true, then no wonder so many people didn't like it. And I am the OP.
I also heard New Coke tasted like Pepsi-flavored Coke. So I've figured that if I mix Coke with Pepsi, then maybe I might know what it tasted like. I haven't tried to do this yet.
