What's your favorite adult beverage?

Spirit - Glenfiddich 15 year old Solera Reserve.

I can't remember if it was that, but when we were clearing out my Grandmothers house after she died, we were looking through her liquor cabinet and found a bottle of Glenfiddich Black Label which pre-dated my Grandfathers death in 1994. I ended up giving it to one of my best men as a thankyou for being one of them.

I think you may be getting it mixed up with Johnnie Walker whiskey - that's 'Black Label' I don't believe there's such thing as Glenfiddich Black Label, unless it's a rare one I've never heard of.

It was way back in the nineties. They may have changed some labeling/branding over the years, not to mention having different products in different countries.

When it comes to Scotch, Glenfiddich for me too. Single malts are the go, not fussed on blended, unless it's blended with something fizzy.

Beer in and Australian summer is essential, and ice cold. Brilliant. James Squire, Cascade, but never Vic Bitter, XXXX or Fosters.

And Wild Turkey American Honey over ice. Just - just - on the right side of sweet for me. There's another brand, whose name I can't recall, that was on the wrong side, made your mouth go funny, and not in a good way, it was so strongly sweet.

If you're adventurous then try the standard 10 year old Edradour, over the last few years I've had three bottles of the stuff and they were all very different, the first one I bought about 10 years ago and it tastes like the tasting notes on the back, quite sweet, floral, overal quite nice, the second bottle I bought a few years later and it had BALLS! also sweet, floral but a hot one that bottle and a few years after that I had yet another bottle and it was again different than the first two, batch variety.. its kinda like a lottery.

I miss the Glen Dronach 15 year old Revival edition.. that was a wicked and most excelent single malt, a fireworks of tastes, they're quite expensive now IF you can find them.. ye gods! the cheapest I found recently was almost 85 Euros.. :sigh::klingon::mad:

Looks good, but its AU$80 price tag puts it out of my reach right now.

Here's a story. My granddad used to work on a small property called Joadja, in the NSW Southern Highlands, many years ago. Matter of fact, there's a vid about it, his first appearance is at 3:50 and then in different places throughout:

Why am I mentioning this in a drinking thread? Since then the property has been bought by a concern that turned it into a tourist site and they have started making their own whiskey. One thing I remember about being there was how marvellous the water was. One of my boys bought me a bottle of their initial offer, which wasn't really whiskey but moonshine:

Quite a wild drop, let me tell you!

They now have their first release of single malt whisky... but it's AU$250 a bottle, so waayyy beyond my reach right now!

I know Sullivans Cove, they make nice stuff.

My brother and I have an air still and we've actually been able to make some alcoholic stuff, the first time around we tried to distill red wine, went okay, didn't taste all that well though, the second time we distilled cider and that stuff while quite raw does have an acceptable flavour..

The air still's function is actually to clean water.. however, while crude it does make alcoholic stuff quite well.

I knew of a small logging concern in Oregon that used to run a still while operating,
as that noise would cover the sounds of the still. And the stuff they sold/traded
was 150 proof! Put you facedown quicktime if you weren't careful...

;)
