Nostalgia can be a trap though. You limit yourself to going back to a certain aethetic and are once again locked into the part. People like change, when it's done right. that's the hard part I guess.I think there's more to TOS's appeal than whatever current nostalgia happens to be. Today, it's the '80s that are the big retro/nostaglia decade not the '60s. Even the '70s have largely dropped off. '90s nostalgia is slowly creeping in, but it's still mainly the '80s.
No, not even close. The original's popularity and status across the world in syndication was a phenomenon. TNG never reached that level of relevance and status on a global scale, and it never will. That's frigging silly talk.
You might like TNG more, and that's perfectly fine, but come off this Ill-conceived position that somehow TNG "eclipsed" TOS. That simply isn't true.
Man, the Berman-era fans get insecure as hell on this shit.
I love all Star Trek, but I'm never ina million years going to claim that TNG was bigger than TOS. TOS's impact is literally ingrained in the popular culture and in our psyche. People know TNG as a good 80s sci-fi show with Patrick Stewart and the guy painted yellow.

DS9 was different. VOY tried to walk in a superior's footprints.how is DS9 niche but VOY, watched by less people, is not?

In fairness that catsuit and the actress filling it probably saved that show from early cancellation. Unfortunately B&B thought that was a forumula for success and ran with it when it was time for ENTTo look at another silly metric...cosplayers. How many Seven of Nines, even in general cosplay? How many Kira? Deanna? Janice Rand?
Not many. I saw a Deanna Troi at a Comic Con once and I vaguely remember a Janice beehive a decade or so ago, but I definatley never saw a women desperate enough to dress as 7of9How many Seven of Nines, even in general cosplay? How many Kira? Deanna? Janice Rand?

I wasn't into anime in the nineties or....ever. so I have no idea what you are talking about
Maybe the Picard series is going to be like the framing scenes of BBC's Casanova. Just an older Picard describing his younger more adventurous life to a young caretaker.
Personally, I think the best option would be to do either "Ambassador Picard", maybe with a cameo or two by a new crew of the Enterprise-E (With either Worf or Stephen Culp's Matthew Madden as CO) as a standalone or combine it with the Academy idea as Commandant Picard.

I'm glad that the discussion finally moved on to the actual content of the Kurtzman rumors, but to take a small backward step, I wanted to point out that "Requiem for Methuselah" implies that there is a window at the front of the bridge. The ship is frozen and miniaturized. When Kirk leans down to look at it he looks directly at the viewscreen location as if he can see in. An inside shot shows Kirk visible on the "viewscreen" even though the ship is frozen and has been since it was in space. Seems like a window in that scene.I don't have a problem with the idea of a bridge window---if it had only been established back in the 60s...
Patrick Stewart is beaming onboard the new “Star Trek: Discovery” series — after CBS reportedly offered him a staggering $16 million for just three months work!
It's both.
