TWOK Removed Dialogue

Hello¡ I grew up with the Director´s Cut of TWOK and i always liked when Spock, Saviik and Kirk are going to the bridge and say:
Kirk: “That young man… he’s my son.”
Spock: “Fascinating.”
I know most people didn´t care about this dialogue being removed, but i will edit the Blu Ray Director´s Cut and add that small dialogue again using DVD Special Edition. Why did Meyer remove this

I hated NImoy's line delivery on that bit. It didn't play as Spock being less than impressed, it played as Nimoy wondering how soon he could hit the craft services table and call his agent.

The original Director's Cut Meyer did for ABC was probably a little rushed and later Meyer may have realized that the lines were contradictory to the new narrative of the re-shot material.

Sure wish they'd release the deleted material so fans could see how it originally played out.

I took it as Spock implying that he wasn't in the least bit surprised, because of Kirk's exploits. It's a given that Kirk's got a lot of kids he don't know about ...

Are you referring to the scene where Kirk says, "That young man -- he's my son." --

if so, yes that bit was never in the theatrical. It was added to the ABC cut in 1985 and the DVD Director's Cut in 2002. For the 2016 Blu-ray director's Cut Meyer left the added footage in -- but had the dialogue deleted.

Hope I cleared that up.

Right it's not in the theatrical -- but you don't need the VHS to check. You can look at the original 1999(?) DVD or the 2009 Blu-ray or simply chose the theatrical version on the 2016 Blu-ray. None of those contain that scene or the dialogue.

I guess that depends on what kind of response he meant to give. I think it's such a blasé response to Kirk's/Shatner's rather excited delivery -- that it works perfectly. Human excited/emotional -- Vulcan logical/unemotional.
To me, Bones or the rest of the crew would have been -- "What?" -- similar to that "What is it with you, anyway?" line from TUC.
Spock is probably thinking -- "not surprising, humans and their mating habits." -- especially in Regards to Kirk.

At any rate, those of us who like will probably mentally insert it from now on.

Despite Takei insisting that Shatner intentionally gave a lackluster performance in that scene to sabotage him, I suspect the real reasons are that:

1) It's an incredibly stilted line.
2) Takei didn't deliver it especially well.

When I'm watching deleted scenes, I think "Yep, I can see why that was cut" WAY more often than I think, "That was awesome! Why didn't they leave that in?"

Aside from a few of the things that crop up in the various versions of TMP...I agree. The only exception are some of the deleted scenes from Nemesis.

So many good and interesting material from that film: Saavik being a Romulan through dialogue from Kirk and Spock, additional scenes of David and Saavik -- a possibility of a romantic endeavor. What would a person have to do to get Paramount to release these scenes and remastering them in 4K or higher?

If they haven't up till now I can't see them ever digging that material out. It's a case of diminishing returns. Even if the next release featured a lot of deleted material -- how many fans would buy the movie for the 4th, 7th or 9th time? Besides me. LOL
What I find lazy is that they never even bothered to include the easily available deleted material that can be found on youtube. So you don't want to go to the salt mine in Pennsylvania and look for the preserved reels? -- ok just grab the 2 or 3 minutes of readily available outtakes and stick them in a small section. But they didn't and thy never will. Hell, not even stills of the deleted scenes with descriptions like they do for movies where the footage has been lost.
