I’ve been thinking of the latest book of each TrekLit series as series finale, given how it’s increasingly unlikely to get new novels, or at least new novels in the same continuity. Except for VOY: To Lose the Earth and PRM book 3.

While not intended as finales, the last books of TNG, DS9, ENT and PRM give us a feel of saying goodbye while the voyage continues. DTI actually concludes their story, with room for sequels. Both ENT and S31 finished major plot lines, and DS9 Gamma was DRGIII’s foray into a new storyline - the continuing voyages again, so to speak.

It’s sad to see the characters go but it becomes easier the more time passes. Plus some concepts survive in STO (Kai Kira, eg).

We’ll see if the new Kurtzman projects will happen and how they rewrite the worlds we love, to bring us new adventures.

We knew that Trek was canon to Marvel's main universe for a long time:

We just got the distorted version. Starlfeet is acutally the Shi'ar Imperial Guard. Which also makes Starfleet the Justice League!

But seriously, that was a neat homage to Trek and it even included a stardate that would place the isue somewhere in early 2260 by my timeline :D

I remember after the last contract renewal, David Mack telling us a little about his original plan for Cold Equations #3 to be an Old Picard story and something of a finale to the novelverse.

It'd be a shame if we never got some kind of goobye. Although heavily rewritten as canon demanded, the novelverse dates back to 2001. Even earlier if you include New Frontier.

Wait.... What?! The last the last thing I heard was that David Mack was hinting that an announcement about new books might be coming up soon. Did something change since then?

Sounds to me like Markonian is jumping to conclusions. Some people seem to think that the probability of a renewal goes down the more time passes without hearing of one, but there's no reason to think that, given that publishing is often an extremely slow business. As for continuity, it's way too early to know which of the recently-announced Alex Kurtzman development projects would come to fruition, what they'd be about, and when they'd be made, so it's way too early to assume anything about their potential impact on book continuity.

I had never picked up on the fact that everyone's uniforms color code to Star Trek's uniforms. :)

I'm pretty sure that's Dave Cockrum's artwork. Cockrum also illustrated DC's Legion of Super-Heroes for a time, and he did the Star Trek: The Motion Picture adaptation for Marvel.

One of the things about IDW's Star Trek/Legion of Super-Heroes that made me a little sad was that Cockrum and Curt Swan (who drew both Legion and Star Trek is his career) were no longer alive to see it and provide variant covers.

I do look at the official site for info. I just find when I'm doing a quick look for upcoming releases Memory Alpha's upcoming productions page is much simpler in design.

It's not that the official site is useless. It has some good info. But when looking for things it seems to have everything all together. It might be helpful if they organized sections a bit better. But not a big deal since I can just, you know, go to Memory Alpha if I'm just looking for a quick list of releases ;)
