What games are you playing currently?

"Gone Home" game. This was a game made in 2013 and I got it for free when the developers gave them away in November 2016 after the election result.

It's a bit of a walking simulator / exploration game with a short story that is sad and hits you in the feels. I haven't played it since getting it so just installed it now to play again.

I played that a couple of years ago when it was given away on PS Plus. Very sweet, and sad, story. Enjoyed playing it very much.

Imho it's the kind of game that only works the first time you play it, as the 'game' is the roaming around and discovering the story. Of course, once you know where to go you can 'finish' the game very quickly, in fact there's an achievement for finishing it in under a minute.

Say what?

Mine is not the steam version so no achievements. It's a stand alone version that they gave out so I'm not even sure if I can get updates.

Yeah, if you go straight to where the final clue is, the game ends. If you're quick enough you can do it in less than a minute, I haven't quite managed it yet.

I thought Steam games had achievements? I'm almost exclusively a console gamer, so I don't really know about these things.

No Fullbright gave the game away in November 2016 over the weekend the election results happened. I found out via Gamespot so went there and downloaded a copy of the game.

I'd love to know how many people even knew about this and downloaded it, but can't imagine it was that many. It's not really that well known.

Just out of curiosity what's the clue that you rush for to get the steam achievement?

I honestly thought the very first time I played that something bad had happened to everyone and that's why the house was so empty. And it made me sad by the end of the game finding out all the stuff that had happened. I love games like this that hit you in the feels.

Contemplating purchase of:

Simpleplanes. This looks like the kind of stupid fun I would like.

Cognition An Erica Reed Thriller

Ah, sorry, I misread your post and thought you did have the Steam version.

It's the letters in the attic. You have to open the secret compartment in the hall, get the key and then get up into the attic and read the letters and it triggers the ending.

Yeah, I didn't really know what the game was when I first played it - as I said, it was a PS Plus freebie so you just tend to grab them and then work out what they are later. I kept expecting a jump scare, or as you said to find out that something horrible had happened to the family (which I suppose it had, in a way). Once I got what it was, I got really wrapped up in the story that unfolded and felt desperately sad for Sam, but when I found out what had happened at the end I was pleased. Very bittersweet game, and the story is very well told. Really pulls on the heartstrings.

Yeah I felt bad for Kaitlin because it's her you are playing.

The current version of the game has a developer commentary and all so I'm just deciding if I should purchase it now.

My kind of game.......... You get to break things

Only the youtube guy made a mistake that was a diesel submarine

Played Pokemon Go yesterday. Really had a blast during Larvitar Community Day. Got enough candies to evolve a very nice one into a Tyranitar. Got some items as well. Also played some Salt and Sanctuary, Pokemon Gold and Silver and a bit of Crystal.

I finally caved in and bought a New Nintendo 3DS XL Galaxy edition so I can play Metroid: Samus Returns. Only, I haven't bought Metroid yet, and instead bought Super Mario 3D Land and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D. Haven't started Zelda yet, but Mario is pretty fun :)

Battlefront II trying to work out how to get Troy and young Solo. The game has changed a lot since I last played it.

Just finished Cultist Simulator, great idea for a game, even if figuring out how to do stuff can take a long time.
At the end the whole playing field was so chaotic, it really matched the concept of playing the mad head cultist of a Lovecraftian order, murdering his way to immortality.

This was my first Steam sale with a computer that can play most things. $45 later, I got some good stuff. I love story based games like walking simulators (What Remains of Edith Finch is both my 2017 GOTY and one of my top 5 favorite games ever), so I got some of those and other games that focus on story over intense gameplay:

The Vanishing of Ethan Carter
The Stanley Parable/The Beginner's Guide pack (I wanted TSP, and the other was only about $1 more if I got the pack)
Tacoma (the most expensive game I got at $10 with the sale)
Her Story
Stories Untold

and I got some "standard" games, too:

Star Wars Republic Commando
Star Wars: Empire at War Gold Pack
Fight of Gods w/Freya DLC (I love mythological gods/legends stuff, and I'm not offended by it also having fighters from religions that are still active, so at $6ish with DLC this should be fun even as a casual fighting game player)

So, I'm going to have a lot of stuff to play for awhile.

I like crazy so I just got:

Simpleplanes

Congition: An Erica Reed Thriller . This one I just found at random and looks interesting.

What's What Remains Of Edith Finch like? Is it like Cognition, where you point and click?

Its not a point and click adventure, its what people call a "walking simulator". Actually, looking at your post above, gameplay wise the main part of the game is similar to Gone Home. It gets a bit more imaginative at points (the game is about a girl returning to her family home and going through tales of the various family members, and those stories are all unique, generally fantastical tales that generally have different simple gameplay twists), but at its core its about walking around and experiencing the stories, and none of the gameplay is all that involved, but special enough (along with the scenarios) to make the game interesting to play along with its great story.

I'd recommend WRoEF to anyone who likes a really good imaginative, emotional story with some really stunning sections, as long as you're good with the "walking simulator" style of play.

Thanks @kirk55555 I have What Remains Of Edith Finch and it's fantastic. It's just like Gone Home but better. I am really enjoying it.

Only there is an achievement for taking the other path to the house and usually with games like this I like to jump ahead but went down that other path but the way seemed blocked and I had to reverse direction and take the default path.
