Egad that's unnecessarily wordy.

Who cares why the dude was late, or even that he was? It screams of filler and not substance. Yeah, I know there are no guidelines for comics, but this is not Dostoevsky.

I guess when Admiral Slater thanked you for your patience, he spoke too soon. ;)

But, yeah, although the general ideas it contains aren't too bad, it could use a few more rounds of editing and rewrites. For example, admirals need not apologize so profusely for their tardiness. The art is reasonably good. You can tell where all the crew are sitting in relation to each other, for example.

BTW, am I the only one who get's a weird vibe that Admiral Slater was walking into a trap half way through Page 3? "Just step through this narrow doorway into this dark room, Admirial..."

In my experience, admirals and generals do not apologize for anything.
It's one of the top 10 signs of a fanfilm: overly chummy superior officers who are on a first-name basis with every damned captain.

The problem is these authors aren't writers and they haven't learned that while all banter is dialog, not all dialog is banter. :D

Actually, it would be interesting to read articles about how to write good banter. Could you give me a few references?

I'm not going to look -- is there actualy dialogue of somebody saying to another person: "You're late!"?

CinemaSins: "You're late" (DING!)

A lieutenant would never dare to say such a thing to an admiral, so no. Instead, the admiral himself says that he's late, which wouldn't happen in real life, but at least he wouldn't fear for his job in that situation.

Why does it take months between the release of each page?

If I wanted to write, draw, ink, and color an entire comic book, I would probably have it done in a week.

Why does everything Axanar take so damn long? :techman:

I'm pretty sure there are pro-comic book artists who draw multiple complete issues each month.
I can't draw, but if I did and really focused I could probably draw everything they've released so far in just a few hours. It's not like it's photorealistic work that requires tons of tiny details.

I can tell you what I suspect about the comic pages.

I think the creator(s) are making the classic rookie mistake of trying to write, draw, ink, color and letter all at once, one page at a time, something no professional worth the page rate would waste valuable time doing. It's been my contention that web comic creators of all stripes tend to ignore a fact that traditional creators live by: comics have to be written first. You need to have at least a plot (like Marvel used to do) or a full script to work with (like every other comic publisher ever.) Failing that, you have to be a good enough visual storyteller so that when dialogue is finally added it makes some kind of narrative sense. Doing everything at once for each page is counter-productive.

They're also operating under a handicap. They're trying to craft a side story to a main story that doesn't exist yet. It's a sequel to {angels sing}AXANAR{angels sing}, but {angels sing}AXANAR{angels sing} has yet to be depicted, so the creators have no context from {angels sing}AXANAR{angels sing} to apply to their narrative. They're trying to write a story in a shared universe before the core of that universe has been established, and they're doing it in the least efficient way possible.

So, yeah, it's gonna take months.
