Kathleen Kennedy Damaging Star Wars....?

Oh dear, so if I'm understanding right, I'm supposed to believe the movies with female leads, which did so absolutely amazing selling tickets, are somehow responsible for the film with a male hero performing poorly? So like basically, when something goes wrong all you've got to do to figure out the problem is find where the women are involved, right? Oh if only we wouldn't keep messing everything up for you!

I knew there was a reason I liked you.

All this talk of people not liking movies with female protagonists reminds me of something I find a bit ironic in these circumstances. I realized the other day that purely unintentionally, the majority of my books and comics have female leads. Part of the reason is because a lot of the books are Urban Fantasy, where the women protagonists tend to outnumber the men.
Books:
Kate Daniels series
Mercy Thompson series
Kitty Norville series
Throne of Glass series
Elemental Assassin series
Iron Fey
Wayfarers series

Comics:
Wonder Woman
Batgirl
Catwoman
Batwoman
Gotham Academy
Rat Queens
Hinterkind
Capt. Marvel
Ms. Marvel
Unbeatable Squirrel Girl
Mockingbird
Patsy Walker AKA Hellcat
Red Sonja
Tomb Raider
I can't help it, I love kick ass women.

The gender of the main characters of the Last Jedi has nothing to do with the quality of the movie, and it's incredibly sexist of you to imply otherwise.

Oh dear, pardon me?

Someone in this thread said he thinks how the last Star Wars movies have had female leads may have directly "poisoned" Solo, so it sounds very clear to me he's suggesting what a mistake it is to have female leads in these movies, because women characters are killing interest in this franchise. I'm calling out how incredibly sexist his attitude his, and I feel I'm making a very clear point by like how those movies with female leads were all huge successes, and how crazy he sounds saying that's still somehow responsible for this latest movie's flop, that had a male lead?

Oh and honey I do hope you will please never call a woman sexist for celebrating progress of female representation in popular culture. :)

I tag Rogue One as having more to do with Solo's poor performance. It has nothing to do with it having a female lead, and everything to do with having no connection narrative-wise to the current Skywalker trilogy.

When people go to these long running franchises, they want interweaving narratives. Which they aren't getting with these side-films.

Maybe I'm wrong?

The "A Star Wars Story" side-movies are definitely geared toward the more devoted fans of the franchise, and less toward casual viewers. In the old days, these kinds of stories would have been kept in the novels or comics. I love seeing this stuff on the big screen, but I have to wonder if diminishing returns will lead TPTB to scrap this aspect of the franchise sooner than we hoped.

Well, I think they need to pick stories that will bring in the masses. We’ve heard rumors about Boba Fett and Jabba. I don’t think either of those might really bring people in. I’m personally not excited for them. One constant has always been a Ewan McGregor-led Obi-Wan film. That would do at least Rogue One numbers, I’d think. But no Fett. No Jabba. No Darth Maul. No Lando. I just don’t think those will perform.

I said implied for a reason. By disagreeing with the point that audience response to TLJ is affecting the performance of Solo, and sarcasticly injecting the "blame the women" reasoning, you are implying that you actually belive having women leads benefits the movies inherently. Which is the sexism equivalent of "Asians are good at math".

I don't think you remotely understand the point being made.

I’m not suggesting you, but there are some males who are blaming this solely on the “SJW-ness” that has come in Star Wars. No longer is the franchise led by white males with a token woman and African American along for the ride. Now there’s a woman in the lead, an African American whose basically her equal, and a Hispanic and Asian along for the ride. Oh and Lucasfilm is run by a woman now! And they want her out! Because of her “SJW agenda!”

While there may be those out there who don’t like TLJ based solely upon its own merits, there are just as many entitled, privileged white boys out there who want their Star Wars back and will do whatever they can to make it happen.

Don’t believe me?

This guy believes wholeheartedly that the ONLY reason Solo has failed is because of Kathleen Kennedy. And he brings up SJWs on a regular basis.

How about this? Really speaks for itself.

The point is: these assholes exist. Ignoring them and their bullshit is not an option. They’re bullies of the worst kind.

I can guarantee this was every bit a corporate decision by Disney, designed to expand the box office potential of the films. People who think that firing Kennedy is somehow going to cure all the woes they see with these films need a serious reality check.

And they are really showing Disney by staying away from Solo, the sole new film with a white male lead is the one that is going to lose a metric fuckton of money. :guffaw:
