Patrick Stewart as picard

He wouldn't take the gig but I am guessing he would have played him more like Spock. Someone filled with repressed emotions inside as opposed to a child with child like curiosity about the world. I tthink it would have worked and a bald android would have made for a more scary looking Data on the outside as well. You just don't see bald Android's. I think he might have even looked more like Locutis minis the Black robot suit.

Sure, it would have worked. Stewart is a talented actor and would have made the material he was given shine.

But it would have been very different. Spiner's Data can be quite comedic at times, mostly unintentionally on the character's part, and Spiner played the comedy very well. I suspect that Data as portrayed by Stewart would have been less comedic and more introspective and solemn.

These questions are always "no" if for no other reason than we saw Patrick as Picard for 7 seasons and 4 movies.

It would be hard, if not impossible, to imagine him as any (TNG) character other than Picard.

It's like the Denise Crosby as Troi? Hell, even though we saw a few minutes of Geneviève Bujold as Janeway, it's still hard to imagine how the character would have panned out over 7 seasons.

I don't know? Stewart has some decent comedy skills...

Fair enough. I still don't think that his hypothetical Data would have been as humorous as Spiner's Data is.

We speculate a lot about different actors in these roles, which is fun to do. But the reality is that if other actors had played these roles, we would (probably) have enjoyed what they did simply because we would have not had what we currently know to compare it to.

This is the old, Deforest Kelly as Mr. Spock question, reborn. It would work because the actors were good, but it would be very different. It's hard to imagine that the result would be better, but we are biased by what really happened. These are questions we can never know the answer to.

I did read something years in a magazine that said he was considered for Data, at least briefly. Patrick Stewart would've made the role of Data his own. Would be interesting to see who may have gotten the role of Picard.

While that is true, Stewart still wouldn't have taken it. He wasn't that crazy about taking the Picard gig in the first place. It would have been harder for him to accept a role as a "robot", not to mention who wuld have gotten the lead.

I'm pretty sure Data would have been an interesting character nonetheless if he had been played by Patrick Stewart, but I don't think he'd have been as comedic and as innocent. Looks play a part in the impressions we get about a character, so I guess an older-looking Data would have brought a very different vision than a middle-aged Data.

I beg to differ
