What Marvel films are worth seeing?

I'm not a huge fan of comic book films but I like them when the writing is clever, when it says something about the real world or when the characters are really cool. The only Marvel universe films I've seen are:

Iron Man 1 and 3
Guardians of the Galaxy 1
Avengers 1 and 2
Black Panther

Of these, I liked Black Panther, Avengers 1 and GoG the best and thought Iron Man 1 was okay.

Based on this, what other Marvel films are worth seeing? Infinity War the obvious one.

The Captain America movies should be to your liking, as those do have a bit of real world commentary to them, and especially in the second one, the man out of time thing is really played well.

Aside from the movies, I'd also recommend the Netflix shows, which all have very strong writing, very strong characters, and feel very relevant. Except for Iron Fist and the Defenders crossover. Those were just meh.

First Iron Man, first Captain America, the two Guardians of the Galaxy, Deadpool.

I fell asleep during the rest of them.

The list of ones not worth seeing is probably more manageable, but I haven’t seen any I would add to it.

They're ok, at the very least.

ETA: Does the 1986 Howard the Duck movie count? Or the 1990 Captain America? I haven’t seen either but I’ve heard bad things.

Howard the Duck is a goddamned masterpiece. Worth watching for the duck tits alone.

The 1990 Captain America is not, though. Only for completists and fans of bad movies. But not so bad it's good again. Just bad. As in dull and annoying.

I was under the impression, though, that @JirinPanthosa was asking specifically about Marvel Studios films. I may be mistaken, though. If so, I'd also recommend X-Men, X2, First Class, and Logan. And the first two Raimi Spider-Man films.

There are tits in Howard the Duck? I thought it was a children’s movie.

That’s the impression I have. I want to see it for myself, but I don’t want to part with money.

It's definitely not a children's movie. It's Howard, not Donald. And they're DUCK tits.

I'm not gonna link it as I don't want to get the board in trouble, but the movie is on YouTube.

HOWARD THE DUCK, the movie, was based on a cult comic that was aimed at teens and adults, not kids. And did we mention that the Duck has a human girlfriend, whom he's sleeping with . ..?

My recommendation for MCU movies you haven't seen would be the three Captain Americas, Ant-Man, Thor: Ragnarok (I also really enjoy the first two Thors, but I'm in the minority there), Doctor Strange, and Spider-Man: Homecoming. If you like the first GotG then I would definitely check out the second one.

Sounds like Captain Americas are the strongest recommendation here, I'll check those out first. Also I have heard other people rave about the second GoG. If I get into those it might inspire me to circle out further.

Forgot about X Men because I was mostly focusing on movies that are part of the narrative weaved together by Infinite War, I have seen the first two of those. Thought they were decent. Might check out First Class and Logan.

I've heard other good things about Howard the Duck. Might try to see that, but not as part of this push which is more "Getting a more complete view of this tightly woven universe".

I also recommend the Cap films, and add that Captain America: Civil War is practically Avengers 2.5.

It gets a bad rap, but the first Thor film was my favorite of the Phase I solo films.

The only Marvel films I've ever seen were Iron Man 1 (which a friend assured me was TEH BESTEST MOVEE EVAR!!1!), GotG1, and Avengers 1

I found none of them to be re-watchable or even remotely above average. Basic summer blockbuster schlock indistinguishable from Transformers or Harry Potter to me.

Must be a taste thing.

I also find it very weird that Trek fans will barf all over the JJTrek films and heap "A+"-level praises on the Marvel movies. I see absolutely no difference in the quality, writing, or execution. They are literally the same movies just with different characters and settings. I happen to enjoy the Trek ones more because I'm a Trek fan...but there is very little distinction in my mind.

Captain America: The First Avenger.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Captain America: Civil War.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2.

If you’re going to look at this all from the typical cinephile attitude: absolutely none of them are worth watching. They are loud, boisterous action movies with a small semblance of a plot, much of which is repeated as nauseum from entry to entry in the series.

If you want to look at it from a turn your brain off place where you can enjoy a loud, boisterous action movie with a small semblance of a plot, the following list works in my opinion:

- Iron Man
- The Avengers
- Captain America: The Winter Soldier
- Guardians of the Galaxy
- Spider-Man: Homecoming
- Black Panther
- Avengers: Infinity War

The rest are fine but really nothing really worth writing home about.

So you are of the difference between the MCU Marvel movies, and the non-MCU Marvel movies?
