Why? Do you think Disney is going to make a tv show that looks exactly like tos?
I don't think there is any reason to have Kelvinverse in TV series. The casual star trek fan who sees a Kelvinverse movie won't nitpick a later series for messing up some head canon of theirs from the Kelvinverse movies.
While a true star trek fan will thow a fit if the tv show is Kelvinverse.
I think the biggest issue with the Kelvinverse is they never should have destroyed Vulcan. Whoever came up with that story idea totally messed up everything. I mean they could retcon a bunch of stuff to make the Kelvinverse flow back into prime .... but they destroyed Vulcan. The only way to bring the two branches back together would be to destroy Vulcan in the prime universe (which would be stupid too because we have been there done that).
I mean the whole idea in a lot of time travel scifi is that you can change the timeline a little but it will correct itself and not make any lasting changes. But then you go and have one of the most important races in the trek narrative wiped off the map. You can't recover the timeline from that.
It was just a bad idea creating such a permanent branch from the two universes that never needed to be done.
You never know. They might give us a new animated series. Why? Do you think Disney is going to make a tv show that looks exactly like tos? That won’t happen.
A show set in the Kelvin timeline would absolutely be NO different from one in the prime timeline - only the backstory would be different - the least interesting aspect of a new show!
The only thing "new" it could offer would be another attempt at the writers doing a "new" first contact with the Borg...Man, I'm excited to see that.
But overall - the original idea of the Kelvin timeline, to seperate it from continuity - has become a giant dumpster fire. It offers absolutely no worthwile addition to the franchise, while making a mess of the shared univers aspect of Star Trek. I still find it absolutely buffling, that in an era where "shared universes" are all the rage - Paramount decided to needlessly break their own one into pieces...
A Star Trek movie? Yeah, that would not be a priority. A TV series? They would be all over that. In fact, it would likely be on Netflix like their Marvel shows (until Disney makes it exclusive to their streaming app).Disney have Star Wars and Guardians of the Galaxy. If they aquired Star Trek, it'd be about as high on their priorities as the another Tron movie.
The thing is - they would try it out to see if it makes money. You use every IP you have that's profitable and Trek is very profitable and has a wide fanbase.Disney have Star Wars and Guardians of the Galaxy. Ok, I was sarcastic about Disney buying Star Trek.... but I actually like this now. If they can push our 3 or 4 series in parallel/over-lapping in-universe and then do a cross over like Defenders that would be kick-ass. The actual implementation of Defenders was meh (Iron Fist dragged the whole thing down) but initial idea is freaking awesome!A Star Trek movie? Yeah, that would not be a priority. A TV series? They still might end up retconing the whole "Kelvin timeline" business and claim that ST09 really was just a hard reboot all along, to which Discovery is effectively a prequel. It wouldn't be the weirdest thing that ever happened to Trek continuity; it wouldn't even be the hardest to explain.
Now compare that to Disney: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_management_of_The_Walt_Disney_Company#Board_of_directorsTen of the 14 director nominees for consideration at this year’s CBS annual meeting are 70 or older. The average age is 72. The average for companies in the S&P 500 Index as a whole is 62. Two of Viacom’s directors are 70 or older, according to the company’s proxy statement.
So, the current generation of execs will be replaced by an older bald exec who claims French ancestry but has a British accent....got it.Or the old generation of CBS retires and they're replaced by... The Next Generation. Yes, I went there.![]()
And he'll let some snot nosed kid run the franchise because he likes his mother. So, the current generation of execs will be replaced by an older bald exec who claims French ancestry but has a British accent....got it.![]()
No...no...no...can't go that far in the age of #metoo (especiually with Viacom)And he'll let some snot nosed kid run the franchise because he likes his mother.

Especially now that we've seenDiscovery as a prequel to the Kelvin movies makes even less sense than as a prequel to TOS.
