Viacom/CBS possibly to re-merge

Is there a word for something that is both completely unexpected, yet not at all surprising at the same time?

Like, a good rule of thumb to know if someone is an enourmous asshole is if he has a reputation to "make or break" careers. Because good people simply don't do that. They don't "break" careers from people they don't like, they just don't work with them. And "making" careers heavily implies exchanging of favours as well - a stark contrast from "discovering" talent.

So yeah, good riddance.

That’s not how it works. The timing of all this is very suspect. You can’t go from zero to six women alleging sexual harassment in a vacuum without anyone knowing anything in advance. Redstone is behind the timing.

Yeah. I mean, that in no way looks like a conspiracy theory or something. Just another ugly, open secret finally being aknowledged. But it's not that surprising that somebodys dead bodies got dug up right after he made some powerfull enemies.

If CBS, as it's publicly admitted, has considerable funding issues with STD, I can't see it having the moolah to produce much of anything, let alone the second half of season 2, by the time this Moonves sexual assault report has reached its end game.

:guffaw:

Don't ever change!

No

Well, it will be far from the first time that you've been entirely mistaken.

I highly doubt it.

This kind of investigation is what Farrow does for a living - he wrote the October 2017 piece in the New Yorker that exposed Weinstein and started those dominos falling. He's a journalist, and he didn't start following this trail last week. You think suddenly he's in Redstone's pocket?

The voice of reason. At least there is still one.

Can I please get some of what you must be smoking? I love the occasional full/hard break from actual reality from time to time. ;)

Interesting developments since I last checked in here. I think what happens now (which was likely to happen before) is that Shari Redstone gets her way, re-merges CBS and Viacom, and then sells the combined company off to some telco or tech company that wants to break it up and use the useful parts for its Netflix competitor, a la Disney and Fox.

Star Trek has nothing to worry about, survival-wise. it's one of the "useful for streaming" component parts. The new owners will just increase the amount of Star Trek being produced. Who might the new owners be? Apple, Amazon, AT&T and Verizon have been rumored. Netflix probably would like to grab some stuff, but they're overextended. Verizon is doubtful too - they seem to realize they are late to the streaming party and should focus on distribution rather than content creation. AT&T has a lot of stuff to digest with the Time Warner acquisitions, not sure they really want more.

I've even seen rumors about Facebook. Ugh, no. Apple vs Amazon would be far more acceptable.

I don't think Redstone is interested in selling off assets and dismantling her father's company. She's trying gain more control over assets that have slipped away.

Well, let’s see if STD jumped the gun on him. It doesn’t look very good at the moment.
Remember though. Lorca made the reference. Maybe the MU Musk was the truly successful one. The crew just didn’t want to call out the volatile captain on an obscure reference.
