Viacom/CBS possibly to re-merge

Actually the destruction of Romulus is the perfect time to set a new series. As that even takes place in both the Kelvin movies and the Prime universe.

So the new Kelvin universe viewer will remember the destruction of Romulus (you can even show the footage from the Kelvin movie at the start of episode).....but then it flows directly in to the Prime Universe about 8 years post Star Trek:Nemesis.

So you get bonuses all around. You get direct tie in to both Kelvin movies and the Prime Universe. You get a new plot device in the splitting of the Romulan empire. You get time period only 8 years past the last we saw of the Prime Universe TNG, DS9, Voyager casts. It sets itself up nicely for a new crew and some familiar faces.

Actually Nemesis was like 16 year ago ... so you could set this 5-8 years post Romulus destruction and the aftermath of the empires split. So then all the TNG, DS9, Voyager cast members would be close enough to about the right age in the series. Not that I would want them showing up all the time but peppered in. Hey Ambassador Sisko good to see you ... how many years now since you came home!

They whole thing is just silly. They should have sorted this mess out before starting the Star Trek show.

Pfft - Trek isn't even a blip on their corporate radar where the important business issues surrounding this merger are concerned.

Large entertainment media are free-t-bone-steak-drooling for established sci fi/comic franchises. Enough that Universal even tried the ill thought out monster universe movies. It's on the radar.

The latest on re-merger seems to be fighting about who would rule the combined entity. CBS wants Moonves and his XO to command both, Viacom doesn't. Their common boss is threatening to fire Moonves, but his golden parachute is so huge that it may actually affect the cost of the merger. Blah blah blah.. Just let Disney buy them all and be done with it.

I like Disney but no. That would be too much.

I’d love to see universal get theme park rights again.

I'm just about okay with Disney buying Trek at this point - and I don't like most of Disney's movies.

The ones I do like, I like quite a bit.

Why? Do you think Disney is going to make a tv show that looks exactly like tos? That won’t happen.

If they got it then it would likely be a full reboot which I don’t think would be a good move.

I don't really think of Marvel as a natural fit for a Trek/Wars crossover, but I guess.

Disney doesn't need Trek. They'd just bury it for safekeeping along with a lot of other properties they control now, or else release a series of seriously bad animated trek direct-to-video offerings. They wouldn't let it draw from their geese that keep laying golden eggs.
