Voyager fans.. are you disappointed about Discovery?

Why can't we have both?
Discovery now, post-Voy show later on? There will be Trek forever. Eventually they'll get back to the future.
Personally, I would prefer this. Not every Trek is for everybody. So, if Discovery isn't for some Star Trek fans that's just fine. I hope Discovery succeeds so we get more Star Trek!!!

that's a good attitude. still, I would like them to have the courage to write after 2378. maybe get some cameos before they retire...die...

See, I'm on the fence on this one. While I can appreciate the ties to past continuity, I really want the next Star Trek series to stand on its own. No relatives, or connections. Just a new generation setting out to explore the great unknown.

i respect that. good point.

oh, and to those I depressed...sorry I forget my filter sometimes.

Omg fireproof78. Love the Next Gen one!

Wonder how many Captain Picard lizards are slithering around out there.
Why do you think they had to leave the galaxy?

I have so many more reasons to be depressed. People dying doesn't bother me as much. Perhaps it should...great, now I'm depressed about not being depressed O_O

I'll bet our doctor has a hypo spray for that! After all he could cure Harry from being in love. Couldn't cure the flu though. Go figure.

This is a difficult placement for such a question.. but with Discovery being set in the.. been it done it before Century, as opposed to the natural progression of things.. er the future of the franchise, is it a slap in the face? I mean Voyager was successful. They tried it all retro with Enterprise and I love that there was a dog on it, I mean the real dog, but what idiot thought going backwards was the way to keep Star Trek alive??

Voyager should have been and WAS the way forward.
I assume that the re-vamped Klingons are a different bunch from most of those who’ve been seen. After all, they changed appearance within TOS. Chinese look unlike Scots, yet both come from the same planet. Same for the Klingons, presumably.

I would have preferred Discovery to be set at the same time as DS9, or later.

The conker headed Klingons are not the same ones as we've seen over the years! They are much TOO different to be the same species and even if they were shouldn't they be suffering from the Augment virus as seen in Enterprise?

I agree. I think the Klingons are wat too different. Not their physical appearance but their behavior and what we've seen of their culture.

Does a virus affect all of humanity at the same time? Does "human culture" look all the same?

That would distract me. But as I'm sitting here thinking, do you suppose it could be explained that it's simply who they were and have, like many cultures, reshaped over time? I'm not a TOS buff so I might be missing a distinction here.

It's certaily possible. It's set pre-TOS so this could be what they were like at that time. For me I enjoy the show but I consider it to be an alternate univers. There are too many inconsistencies to be set in the prime timeline. I'm still enjoying the show very much, however I still am against paying for it.

There are way too many differences to be accepted for me! The Mirror universe has already been explored in the first season despite TOS not encountering that reality until it's second year! And that means that Kirk and co. must have known of it's existence when they crossed over or if not why not? The best answer here is to regard DSC as an alternate universe like the new movies or just disregard it entirely!

Didn't they keep the mirror universe classified? In DS9 they encounter it a few times and it was new to them.
