Star Trek origins story

Not really, TOS did have some military adventurism as part of the overall mix, and a single episode mostly set in the mirror universe.

But DIS is lacking TOS' multiple exploraton episodes, and encountering multiple previously unknown (unknown to Starfleet) species. Multiple episodes involving civilians are also lacking.

DIS has very few themes during it time so far.

No, the premise is the same. TOS and DSC both have crews on a ship having adventures every week. What those adventures are (exploring planets-of-the-week or fighting a war) is secondary to the premise.

Discovery and The Expanse are both covered under that.

One could also say that the premise of BSG and VOY are the same too. Or the premise of every police procedural show. Or the premise of every soap opera.

BSG and VOY are different expressions of the same concept/premise of getting lost but that is one huge concept - The Twilight Zone and Space :1999, not to mention Lost In Space and Gilligan's Island.

If you stretch the premise enough, any two shows are the same. Star Trek and Scooby Doo have the same premise in that they both feature ensemble casts traveling around in a named vehicle, solving mysteries.

We were talking about Star Trek being a rehash as well as a reboot and that BSG was more of a remake. Lets define our terms a little better. There's reboot (hard and soft), there's rehash (my term), there's reimagining, There's story, concept, premise, and theme and then there's universe, timeline, reality and continuity.

Exactly. BSG and Voy differ in the details, as do TOS and DIS.

You'd have to squint pretty hard to see TOS and DIS as more than vaguely similar.

We saw the origins of Trek that time when Q transported Picard billions of years into the past.
