Did anyone else watch the pilot? It seems interesting, and looks to be an adaptation of the novel which in turn was based on real events. With a supernatural element thrown in.

Yep, watched the pilot which in turn is actually the first two episodes back to back, and it's promising. The production values are very nice. And the historical parts are pretty accurate. Very entertaining.

    The Franklin Expedition + monsters.

I'd rather watch a straight historical version.

The book barely had any monsters in it. It's more of surviving with no food in the snow.

Well, the series is based on the book. For the most part, the historical parts seem fairly accurate and well-researched. The monster is more of an allegory to how harsh and uncompromising that part of the world is and how woefully unprepared they were, even with their ships outfitted with the best technology the world had to offer at the time. This expedition, where previously many had failed, was their moon shot. What the book and the series are attempting to do is fill in the blanks on why they might have disappeared and having a bit of fun with it. It's part speculative fiction, part supernatural fantasy.

As they were dying, they were very likely hallucinating and imagining something out to get them in this harsh and unfamiliar world, when in reality they probably all died due to poisoned supplies and hypothermia. One interesting fact is how due to their food being packed in tin cans, it lead to lead poisoning and hallucinations. So, what we the viewer see are probably vivid hallucinations.

From the commercials it made it seem like The Terror was about the monster...but now I realize it is the name of one of the ships.

So I think we will be disappointed in seeing a lot more of the monster.

Bit I do like the characters...Sir John and Francis in particular seem like both good men and leaders despite a strong difference of opinion

Yes, but can also be taken as a double meaning. I think it was the author's intention. Because in the end, the ship was ironically named.

I know they found wreckage..and supposedly this show integrates that knowledge in...but did they find any journals???

The fire seemed pretty serious...but did that happen?

Though we saw the beast...this was more about the men...very sad ending for some people...and the other captain simply wanted to enliven the crews...

Supposedly, they did find some of the journals. If you look on the Wikipedia page for it, it's got quite a lot of interesting detail about what they found:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franklin's_lost_expedition

In it, it notes that in one of the search expeditions in 1859, a note was found in a cairn near King William Island detailing the fate of the expedition, in several different languages. They have a picture of it too. The note states that whoever finds the paper should forward it to the Admiralty in London, or to the nearest port.

But there are also more journals that were found, detailed in the link

This does look interesting. It's on my list to check out once the whole season runs.

I'll have to catch up with it when it eventually comes to Netflix. I had missed an episode and realized that the DVR wasn't seeing any upcoming repeats on the same day, so I decided I'd just wait to see the rest of it.

The finale was advertised as a season finale....we are NOT getting more of this right? Seems like the story is compete, though the ending seemed a tad rushed.

    Oh, hey ...SPOILERS BELOW

Did the latest info on the expeidition come too late? Seems like they missed some opportunities, such as the Terror and Erubus being separated and found long distances from each other.

Also, the cannibalism seemed pretty minimal..from what i read, it seemed more serious.

I was disappointed that Dr. Goodsir died...me & my wife were hoping he would hook up with Silence (Silna). According to some records, it was possible there were 2 survivors... Now what happened with Captain Francis? I didn't understand the last couple of scenes. so the 3 others he was with...was that the remnant of that tribe? Or did he find Silence? Was the child theirs?

Indeed. Jared Harris was excellent...i know his father was renowned as an actor but i think Jared was excellent. He and Sir John and the Erebus Captain were good and noble men even with their flaws. Dr. Goodsir was very sympathetic...and Mr. Hickey....that actor does a great psychotic villain. Someone needs to recruit him for a bigger villainous role.

Overall a good show... but those last few episodes on the rocks.. was that similar to real life? It seemed like a cheap way to stretch the episodes and also NOT keep the actors in cold icy weather.

I've heard that it could possibly become an anthology series similar to Fargo and American Horror Story.
