To me, they are both bad in terms of storytelling, because we don't see Vulcan Males dressed the same way.

I will take a brothel scene over the endless number of people who sleep in the nude. I guess some people might do that in real life but I have never seen it for myself. Also the endless number of shower scenes. Is making love in a shower really all that sexy? Though the twist on it is equally absurd were people walk around in towels. Do people really do that? I thought most people just dry off with a towel and put some clothes on.

I can't think of a single reason why there would be nudity, except to titillate the mostly male audience. Which is a pretty pathetic reason to have a nude scene. It never really contributes to the storyIt's a show about exploring space, meeting aliens and sometimes having to fight aliens. If you want nudity, its on the internet and it isn't hard to find. There's probably some that's Star Trek related if you're that desperate too.
It's also pretty disgusting to say you don't want to see certain actresses nude because of immature complaints about their appearance.

I agree. I will give TNG some credit though were at least the one piece starfleet outfits at least look very much like the male outfits starting in season 3. Also Kira's catsuit that she got in season 4 is close to the look of the outfit she had been wearing. It strikes me as someone making a compromise. Some Suit wants more sexy stuff and the show creators compromise with a skin tight outfit but not one that is quite as glaring like they would eventually do with Seven of Nine and later T'Pol though T'Pol might have also been a compromise in season 1 and 2 because that catsuit was ugly to look at. Then in season 3 they changed her hair and gave her more bright colors.

I would have thought that with the advent of readily available "foreign" drama on Netflix that features inconsequential and commonplace/nonsexual nudity, that American audiences would be less concerned about visible nacelles...

Sex scenes usually are a bad use of time. Why spend 5 minutes showing people have sex when you can be using that time speeeding things up to create more tension or add something character oriented to help add depth to a character. Remember the sex scene in the first "Terminator" movie that feels out of place and brings the movie to a a halt for a moment. I mean you do need them to have sex because Sarah has to give birth to John Connor but we don't need to see the actual sex. Would anyone want to watch Jack Bauer on " 24" back in the day stop at McDonalds for a short meal and we watch him eat ever bite. It's the same issue. Some things only need to be implied.

I don't mind a decent love scene if I like the characters, but nudity isn't required for it. If you want porn, just go watch porn. There's no need to try and classy it up with a plot.
Truth be told, we didn't really see them having sex, just an unconvincing pantomime that didn't fool anyone and lasted about thirty seconds.
In French movies, people appear naked because they are lovers and lovers are casual about their nakedness when they are together. Showing them hiding their bodies from each other with a sheet like they do in American movies is unnatural and ruins whatever chance the movie had to be deep and authentic. as for the scenes where "naked" bodies are conveniently hidden from the spectator by some providential obstacle is even more unnatural and stinks of puritanistic censorship.
Whatever floats your boat, but personally I find the prospect of Tilly nude scenes as disgusting. It's the female equivalent of Seth Rogan nudity.
There's good nudity and bad nudity, and this would rank right down there with Lena Dunham.
We're in agreement that nudity on this show should be avoided. Especially if it's more L'Rell :/
Unless it's Black Panther, I don't think audiences could take men in catsuits seriously. Though T'pol did not look good in the Starfleet uniform, so the catsuit was the best option.

I would argue that even sex scenes without nudity tends to be boring. For me the romance part of all romance couples is usually the most boring part. It's one of the reasons why O'Brien/Keiko is such a great romantic couple in Trek. They spend time focusing on the details of marriage or dating in other successful romance stories. They sex and the wooing and grand gestures always feel kind of boring. Not always. John Cusak with the Boombox or Rcik with the cue cards in "Love Actually" are a few examples were that stuff works but most of the time it's tedious.

I can't honestly say I've ever felt a movie felt more authentic because people were naked. On the contrary I tend to see people feeling that they had to reveal something private and personal in order to satisfy a film maker or an audience. That usually feels exploitative to me.
I find nude scenes awkward because I know how fake it was to film it.
There is that as well. I have seen many kissing scenes were it just looks like two actors mushing their faces together.

That's the thing though. There shouldn't be any camera work to hide bodies from the spectator. Naked people should be filmed the exact same way as if they were wearing clothes. Otherwise you're just making a puritanistic statement. I don't need a movie telling me that it's been filmed by and/or for prudes.
If it's fake it's only because it's been filmed by people with hangups vis a vis nudity.
