Howdy. I don’t know much about Star Trek but I joined because a co-worker wanders this place. Maybe I could actually find a hobby in here somewhere, maybe read some fan fic, develop some sense of community. No idea. We shall see. Nice to meet everyone too.

I'm new. 48 years old. Married. Two boys nine and thirteen. The older one is into Trek. The younger one not so much. Yet.

Grew up with TOS in syndication, animated series. My brother (five years younger) jumped on TNG out of the chute but it took me until season three get fully on board. Now I don't think I could choose between the two.

Have been a big Trek fan throughout my life, even though its caused me some ribbing since I've always been the only guy in my various circles of friends over the years to be into it. I've played baseball and competed in Olympic style weightlifting throughout my adult life. Seems like I've been continually surrounded by Adam Sandler fans and the occasional Star Wars fan...and I'm not a fan of either.

My favorite TOS episode is "Balance of Terror". Favorite TNG is (a tie) "Inner Light" and "Yesterday's Enterprise". Favorite OC movie is "Wrath of Khan", which is my favorite move period along with "The Natural". My favorite TNG movie is "Insurrection". I liked the first Abrams movie. Hated the second. Liked the third. Can't get into DS9, although I'm giving it another shot. Voyager is just okay for me. I liked Enterprise. I hate - and I cannot stress this enough - I HATE Discovery. I gave it four episodes and bailed. For me, it's not Trek. I was excited going in because I'm a fan I'll watch anything with Klingons. Well. Not anymore because those things in Discovery aren't Klingons, IMO. So, I'm reading Keith DeCandido's books to help deal with my disappointment.

So. I'm new here. Take it easy on me.

Keith DeCandido's novels are great. He has a knack for Klingons. Haven't seen Discovery yet. But I don't like Enterprise. I gave it a try, several times. No chance. Yet. That may change, though. I have read a few ENT short stories and they were good. A good writer can turn a show you are not fond of yet into something good. That's how I was able to get into DS9 - by reading the novels.

Agreed. I found DeCandido after reading Ford's "Final Reflection", which I thought was great. I read the synopsis for his follow-up "How Much for Just the Planet?" and was on the fence, so I'm reading "A Burning House" now. Out of order, I now realize. But, I was on vacation and needed something to read at the beach and rushed my decision. I'll go back and read the series after finishing it, I think. He does a great job of presenting the culture with references to what we've seen on the screen, expanding on that, etc.

I think that's what's really put me off with respect to Discovery. Understanding that Klingons have changed since first appearing on TOS and really having no problem with changes that reflect progress in CGI, make-up, costumes, etc., I really think the show has missed the mark with how they're portrayed. There's so much to mine from the Klingon world/culture that Star Trek (TV, movies, books, etc.) has created. They're probably the most well developed fictional race in annals of sci-fi. So, I don't get it.

Hi, Just joined today. I'm from Canada and have been a star trek fan since the 70s (born in 72). I think TMP was actually my first movie (it was either that or Star Wars). Used to be involved in a BBS before around the time of late 90s Trek. Either webtrek or trekweb. One was better than the other, can't honestly remember which now. They both seem to be gone now. Hoping this is the place to be now. Forums, in general, seem to be dying off which is too bad. I miss the interaction of forums. Not really big into the facebook groups and such.
A question: Is there a buy and sell classified attached to this forum? I'm assuming i can't see it until i get my 14 posts in?

Hello, I’m Commander Chatokay. I like to chat, okay?

I’ll be popping in occasionally to make random comments on the Star Trek universe and to pass on the wisdom of my animal guide, who is noted for being sarcastic and overly critical of continuity errors. I’m a bit more chilled and just like to go with the flow. After all, who really cares if people’s eyebrows look different from scene to scene?

    Hey,

Been a Trekkie for years. Got hooked on TNG but being the completionist that I am, started watching TOS and actually admired the series more than TNG. Kirk-trek (TOS) is much more involved and covers more social issues than any other series, in my opinion. Yet, you can't beat the story arcs of TNG and the Borg. So, I like them all - well except Discovery - too dark and too fantastical. Trekkies need continuity and reconcilable technology ..

Hope to see you out there - "...second star to the left."

Hello, just joined tonight. I have dabbled in Star Trek for years but nothing serious. I have watched the first season of Enterprise and the first 10 or so episodes of the Original Series over the years. I have decided to do a deep dive and have purchased the all of the original series on blu, the Next Generation complete series on blu, and the complete Enterprise series on blu. I am starting by watching the Original Series in production order. I also have the These Are The Voyages books by Cushman. I know that they are somewhat controversial, but being a historian I like to have as much background material as possible to supplement my viewing. Hopefully I can find a whole bunch of other supplementation by being a part of this forum.

I'm a newbie to this board but I grew up watching repeats of TOS and reading James Blish's novelisations (which are still my main memories of most of the original series). Missed TAS (not sure it was shown here in Australia, certainly never came to my attention). But I did eventually catch up on that through Alan Dean Foster's books. I really became a big fan with the movies. Got a bit lost with TNG on its initial release. The TV station that was showing it tended to move it around the schedule and I missed a few episodes and the first season was pretty weak anyway so I gave it up. Then I caught a couple of later season episodes and realised how good it was so I caught back up on video. My fandom was firmly cemented with DS9 and I enjoyed Voyager immensely (while accepting that the quality varied more than it should have). Started Enterprise but lost interest quickly and never finished the first season. I've recently forced myself to give it another go and so far I've made it up to early season 3. I'm still intending to finish it but am struggling to find the interest to continue at the moment. Watched Discovery with mixed feelings. Wasn't keen at first but it grew on me as the season developed (although I thought the ending of the first season was a bit weak after some strong episodes up to that point). Not a big fan of the new movies although I have seen them.

I've also got a fair number of Star Trek novels. I'm currently reading Shatner's Captains Peril/Blood/Glory series.

Apparently, this is a good place for us newbies to get some posts in. I recently joined TrekBBS, but I've been a Trek fan since about mid-TNG. Although TNG is "my Star Trek," as in, the one I grew up with, DS9 has become my favorite.

I've seen all series and movies (including Discovery and the Kelvin-verse) multiple times and have read 200+ Star Trek novels.

Sadly, I've never been to a convention. #justlostmygeekcred

I regularly listen to Mission Log, Literary Treks, and The Trek Files.

So, hello to everyone. I hope to have good additions to the discussions here!

Finally got round to joining the forum.

Grew up with DS9 and it is probably still my favourite. Gave me a taste for the politics (and wars) of the Trek universe.

Currently going through TNG for the first time front to back. Up to S5 and it feels like peak, pure Trek.

I'd love there to be another TNG style series set after the Dominion War.

So hello again! I'm a fan from Ireland, been watching trek since I was a kid. My favourite series is DS9 and my least favourite is Discovery.

When I started watching Star Trek, like most people then, we only had black and white TV. Star Trek was prime time. Over at my friends house one night I saw Star Trek in color for the first time. His Dad was a Dentist and they could afford color TV. I remember how surprised I was that Spock wasn't really green. You couldn't tell from the black and white and I had always assumed that if Spock had green blood then he had to be green....lol.

I'm a total newbie to this forum. I've watched a few original series episodes when I was a kid, but I didn't become a diehard fan until I sat next to another fan in class, nineteen years ago, and he converted me to Trekism. I still love watching the movies and episodes, purchased TNG on blu-ray and have been writing fan fiction way longer than is considered healthy. That classmate has a lot to answer for :D

Hello, Everyone! My name is James Staley and this is my first time on the Trek BBS, so I just want to give a brief background intro.
I'm 55 years young, live in the town of Jones, Oklahoma (top NE corner of OKC), I love history, historical documentaries, building plastic model kits, and I've just started a new job at the Oklahoma City Zoo where i'll be driving the zoo tram!
As far as my "Trek" interest/experience goes, I've watched all of the TV shows and movies, but haven't seen the animated series in 4ever or the recent movie remixes (I can't STOMACH them!). I like ALL things Science Fiction, so I won't be debating or discussing over which series is "better" or "best" because I like them all! I'm also a long-time Japanese anime fan dating back to the 1970's and Starblazers/Yamato.
I hope everyone is doing well today and look forward to hearing from you in the future.
