Scientists being the main combatants in a war surprises you?It does surprise me to call a series 'Discovery' and set up this scientific vessel as the main weapon in a war story.
It surprised me that the franchise went with the theme 'discovery' right down to naming the show and vessel that name, and chose to use it as a weapon. Why would viewers be expecting that?? It's not that scientists don't contribute to war, if that is something to be proud of.Scientists being the main combatants in a war surprises you?
You have SEEN Star Trek before, right?
I thought Star Trek's theme was "adventures in outer space?"It surprised me that the franchise went with the theme 'discovery'
"I don't understand this show... I mean, it's called 'Doctor Who' but this guy isn't a physician, and his last name isn't 'Who.' So confusing!"Why would viewers be expecting that??
Um.. a title can have relevance to the subjectIs it actually worthwhile to guess what a show's going to be about by reading the title and projecting from it? I've never tried that. It sounds like a waste of time.

"Discovery" is just a name.

Star Trek Discovery is about a Trek, through the Stars, on a ship called Discovery. It's akin to naming your series 'Lost in Space', but then everyone is on a spaceship, doing space mission, but never actually getting...lost. Or, like calling your show 'Hawaii Five-O', but then it takes place entirely in Oklahoma or something...
I'm guessing you were one of those people who was shocked and offended at the conclusion of "The Never Ending Story"The name of a show should be indicative of it's content, everyting else is just stupid.
Stories are supposed to surprise you.It does surprise me to call a series 'Discovery' and set up this scientific vessel as the main weapon in a war story.
Maybe not, but if I recall correctly, they did find him !Search for Spock wasn't really a search.
Originally DS9/Bajor was on the Federation frontier. When they retooled the show for the Dominion war, suddenly every planet in the Federation was just a scene break away.No it wasn't. It was in Bajor's home system, hardly "deep" space for them.
Of course the Bajorans were humble, simple native folk...
Search for Spock wasn't really a search.
What was the meaning and indication of mission behind the name "Enterprise"?
But they did. They discovered how to make the spore network usable for instant travel, went to the mirror universe where they discovered dark and twisted versions of themselves etc.4. Names of stuff have meaning. 'Discovery' should at least TRY to by a bit about discovering stuff.

But sometimes names don't have deeper meanings, Cheers was about the people in a bar called Cheers, Veronica Mars was just the name of the main character, so was Murphy Brown. Everwood, The O.C., Melrose Place ... all named after places and nothing else.
So as long as Star Trek Discovery features the Discovery the title fits, it doesn't have to be about discovering things, a title doesn't have to desribe the theme or Veronica Mars would have been "High School Girl, P.I."
